I think this is a very ignored fight of Floyd Mayweather. That's probably because he wasn't as famous yet in this fight. This was the fight where he probably faced the most doubt in his career about if he'd win or not. A lot of people picked against him for this one. I'm quite sure that most of the people that dislike Mayweather haven't seen this fight (most people that "hate" him probably haven't seen that many of his fights anyway, so no surprise there). Mayweather used every single boxing tool in this fight, but his jab was what was the most surprising because that was what he dominated and controlled the fight with. He also moved very effectively. This is footage of the 10th round. He had already knocked Corrales down 3 times in the fight, I believe. I don't know, it just seems to be glossed over. Maybe because it was so onesided, who knows. I don't think it is an overlooked fight. For me it is the greatest win and greatest performance of Mayweather's career. It was a virtuoso performance of pure skill, and one of the main reasons why I think Mayweather is one of the three best fighters ever at sfw (the other two being Arguello and Chavez). It's a shame PBF never fought opposition as good as Corrales and Castillo later in his career at 140 and/or 147. If he did, we may have been talking about one of the top 25 ever.
Corrales was somebody then so I dont think it was ignored. I watched it because I was a big Corrales fan. I miss him...
Yeah his win over Chico never gets mentioned much anymore. But it was a stunning display by PBF, and I`m not a big fan of his. When ever I`ve seen Mayweather in action, it always seems like he`s holding someting back and he never lets go totally. Along with his demoltion of Gatti, this performance was his best.
people though this was going to be a modern day SRL vs Hearns. it was a suprise to many how one sided it was. wstill a big fan of both. RIP chico
its not ignored. Its the main reason people are still saying that Floyd is an ATG. Take away that fight and Floyd loses alot of his status.
I agree. This is often (rightfully) cited as his very best match. Mayweather really shined in this one.
