Here is my prediction for 2011
Mayweather vs Cotto in Yankee stadium in may for the middle weight belt.

Why I believe this will happen
It seems that instead of Mayweather and Pacquiao fighting each other, they both fight each others left over. So Cotto fits this bill perfectly from a business and reputation stand point for Mayweather.
Cotto is the middle weight champ right now and has actually beaten some one for the belt. Mayweather will fight him at 154 with no catch weights for bragging rights over pacquiao and more leverage in the negotiations. Cotto is a shot fighter so this will be a great and lucrative tune up fight for Mayweather, Cotto will also take the test no question Cotto.

    As for publicity 24/7 ect.
Cotto is a stand up guy who is very honorable and Mayweather will be the same this time around, as there is no animosity between the two. Mayweather will go lite on the Mayweatherism and instead talk up his opponent, with only slight jabs about his record. Mayweather will show a sort of insulting sympathy to Cotto saying how he fought cheaters in past fights which will be a subliminal jab at Pacquiao, but able to be covered over by Margaritos hand wraps issue. So Mayweather wont get sued but every one will know what he meant.
With Cotto being such a nice guy Mayweather will be to, so as to put a more positive spin on his charter after all the public trouble he has been in. Mayweather will also so show more of his philanthropic side and star power.More than likely he will be working with Russell Simmons or other stars who are out in the New York area. Of course to put the money in the Mayweather you are going to see a lot of night life stunÂ’in with 50 cent and probably here more about filthy rich records.
24/7 is going to have more content in the form of the Yankee stadium and the boxing history that has and much of the press will talk about that as well. Mayweather will capitalize off the Yankee stadium moment to try to incite a nationalistic fever making his name Yankee stadium and America synonymous. He will also use that as a hook for his fans against the overwhelming Latino crowd that will be there to show support for Cotto and try to carry that into a Pacquiao fight.

    The fight
Mayweather will win by first beating Cotto to the punch in the early rounds with jabs and the leaping left hook. then he will use motions to pot shot Cotto for a UD. Or vice versa.

    The reaction
after the 1 million to 1.2 million pay view buys and the pack stadium full of stars and the Latinos. People will be excited again for a fourth round of negotiations, even the people who will be mad about the third round of failed negotiations and have all but given up hope for a Mayweather Pacquiao clash.

Mayweather and Pacquiao meet in December of 2011

    Just a thoughtÂ…

If Mayweather was going to fight Cotto he would have done it years ago. Cotto's had 2 bad losses and is now at 154, I can't see it happening. I think it's more likely Floyd fights the winner of Morales-JMM

Not a bad first post. It's possible. But I'd hurry up and change the bit that says 'Cotto is the MIDDLE weight champion' before a chorus of STFU Noob erupts.

Naw. Cotto has not been the same since Marg. If Mayweather was to fight him it would not enhance his legacy. Its either Pac or no one.

A fight with Sergio Martinez is possible also if he doesn't lose to Paul Williams.

Say's PacDWorst. Since you're the antithesis of PacDBest does that mean your predictions regarding Pac will be opposite of what will actually happen?

    There's a bigger possibility of Pac-Cotto 2 than Floyd-Cotto in 2011.
