OK - I am a huge boxing fan, been following the sport since the 80's. I am a 'fan' of both Mayweather AND Pacquiao - though I enjoy them for different reasons. Mayweather for his great skill and the soap opera antics he brings to enliven this sometimes moribund sport - Pacquaio for his sheer excitement and for being a great ambassador for achievement. Obviously, partisan fans defending their favourites to a FAULT is a bit of a scourge on these forums, BUT it has to be said that if Floyd/Pac doesn't happen this time after everything Pac has done to make the fight, as well as all the effort that the networks have made, and Floyd fights a past his best Cotto instead, then basically all questions are answered. No more bringing up baseless PED accusations from the past. No more Bob Arum blocking bull****. No more afraid of needles or new stadium blah blah blah. No more "walked away from $40m" nonsense when the fight was clearly worth more than that....NO MORE. It will be unequivocal as to why the fight hasn't happened, and it comes down to FLOYD. He loves to tell us that he is his own boss, and he has evidently used this luxury to rob the sport of the fight it needs, and that the fans want. There will just be no defending it. Sorry, I have tried my best to be fair and reasonable. I have followed both fighters and admired them both. But this should be as plain as the nose on your face. There is no defending Mayweather now. And it's a pity, because he is a fantastic boxer. So disappointing if true.
I still REALLY think he fights Pac. If this doesn't go down it hurts Floyd way more than Manny. They will never negotiate again and Floyd will take 100 % of the blame...fair or not. Floyd will fight Pac.
True, but once again people will call him a paper champion because he "didn't fight anyone real to get the title." Needless to say it's because everyone runs away from him but nonetheless it's just another title without the marque fight to accompany it. Bittersweet for GGG.
Dan Raefel doesn't know anything. A TMT member said yesterday that pac/may would be announced at the Super Bowl. Dan is listening to the public chatter of may/cotto concern, but no one of importance.
I hope you guys are right. Cos I certainly don't like ranting against these two great athletes. But the YEARS of constant bickering, and defending Mayweather/Ellerbe/Haymon/Showtime or Pac/Arum/HBO to the absolute hilt, in the face of all sensibility, has just driven me as nuts as most of the rest of you true boxing fans. It's great to have a hero, someone to root for. It makes stuff so much more exciting. But some of the mud slinging and skewing of words, manipulating things to fit your heroes agenda is pathetic. And, one way or another, it should be over soon. Either they fight and everything is put to bed, or Floyd fights Cotto and becomes the undisputed culprit of the fight not happening. 2015 could in theory be a vintage year for boxing. It's unbelievable tha the sport is in decline when you look at all the theoretical match ups that could be on the table.
If true all I can say is: Surprise, surprise. Another Pacquiao duck. His legacy is toast. TBE? Not even close.
All that will happen is, Floyd will come up with his side of the story and all the Floyd groupies will believe every word. Normal service will be resumed. I hope for the sake of boxing Floyd does not fight Cotto
