Cotto's fans are screaming for the fight "rightnow!!!" using a few vague comments Miguel more mumbled than proclaimed as proof it has to happen ASAP. I agree that it's the fight that needs to be made in boxing, agree completely, but, it's not going to happen so why keep harping on it. What do you want Floyd to do? He's already mapped out his 2008, and, Cotto's 2008 seems all sewn up provide he goes unbeaten. At this point, if Floyd just saif **** it and challenged Cotto to a fight in June, Arum wouldn't allow the fight because he prefers Cotto-Margarito over anything involving Mayweather.

It's hella convaluted, because even if Arum isn't worried about matching his guy with Floyd, he'd still prefer to stage a Top Rank PPV where he doesn't have to share the PPV money with a GBP, or Mayweather. He controls every aspect of a Cotto-Margarito fight, and although that's not the biggest fight in boxing, it's the most lucrative pot available to Bob Arum and Top Rank promotions.

That said, and I don't think Miguel is scared of fighting Mayweather or anyone his weight division, I still feel he's always going to have the mentality that when a Merchant or Lampley asks him who he want's next, he's always, always going to answer with a "whoever Bob Arum put's in front of me." Cotto's much, much braver than me, because he gets in there and fights while I'd rather not get hit in the head. But the great fighters or boxers of the past seemed to want to control at least a small portion of their destiny in the sport. You'd hear guys call out the champion, or the highly prolific guy who used to be champion, and hope to beat that guy and make your mark or earn a shot. Now, not just Cotto, but most guys have to think it over and make use that same line, whoever their promoter tells them to.

I know Cotto said the one line about Floyd avoiding him, but even that seemed like the reporter was having to pull blood from a stone to get him to say anything about Floyd. He more answered a comment than made it. Neither of these guys seem all that interested in the fight, and it seems Cotto fans want the fight much worse than Cotto himself wants it. I'm with you guys in wanting to see the fight badly, but seeing as how it's just not going to happen, why bang the drum so loudly? Maybe just accept that it's, at the earliest, a year away and enjoy the anticipation instead of trying to change what's set in stone.

Why give it a rest when ALL of us want to see it? Democracy, the voice to the people. Why do you think folks go on a strike? To be heard. I say keep talking about it. Dont give up. Hope for the best. I understand reality and Arum and he has direct control over Cotto but it doesn't hurt to dream aloud right?

The fact that cotto is now putting floyd name in his mouth only tells me that both parties agree that it is time to start hyping this fight to the masses to make it the big event that it was ment to be, I personally feel the fight will happen, look at the fights both fighters are taking Cotto is fighting Gomez followed by Mayorga .

Floyd is hyping himself to the WWE fans, which has a huge fan base and the fact these fans will pay to see there favorite wrestler even though they know wrestling is fake, this will then be followed up by Oscar ..

as you know you can't have two hyped fighter in the same weight devision with out something happening .

i have come to terms with it, we know for sure we are not going to see this fight this year, so why are people starting all these stupid threads? its not going to make the fight happen any quicker.

Anybody with some type of knowledge know the fight will happen but constant bickering won't speed it up. Cotto 2008 is planned out and Floyd's is planned out as well. If we don't hear anything around the beggining of the new year then we can make ourselve heard.

cotto is basically clearing the division out, by the end of 2008 cotto will be ranked on the level of floyd at welterweight, then the fight will be even bigger, it would be almost like tyson-spinks or lewis-holyfield, 2 big stars who both have legitimate claims to be called the best in the division.

I agree. I think that will make the fight much bigger then it is now and the hype should be insane.

    I'm a huge Cotto fan...

I do have to agree that I'm getting tired of reading the same thing about these two fighters..

I believe the fight will be made sometime in 2009...

Floyd wants the cash against DLH one more time..Plus I'm completely positive that we'll see the same result that we got in the first fight...

After that if they are both undefeated the fight will happen and it will be huge...

and if it doesn't happen then fuk it....

I still think they are both very good fighters and although Cotto deserves the shot more than anyone in the division IMO I think he can still make a huge name for himself fighting the rest of the divison later on...

I'm just sayin in case Floyd decides to retire one more time after the DLH fight if it happens...
