Oscar didn't win but Mayweather didn't win easily by any means either. Oscar won alteast 4 rounds if not 5. People don't like to remember but Emmanuel Steward was pro-mayweather during the telecast to a point where Merchant had him admit "ya, you're right, if Mayweather doesn't pick it up, he's going to lose" This at the 7-8th round when Oscar was ahead.
Floyd's dad said oscar should have won the decision because he forced the fight. I don't agree but Oscar was all over Floyd throwing combo after combo to Floyd's one punch at a time. Oscar even managed to win the 12th round on 2 judges scorecards.
Oscar won. Castillo won. 40-2 Cotto won 40-3 Zero Prime HOF fighters faced. Prime ducks include: Kosta Tszyu, 2008 Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Manny Pacquiao, Sergio Martinez.
Watched live on TV didn't score, thought De La Hoya took some of the early rounds. Thought Mayweather finshed stronger, but De La Hoya may have gotten enough of the earlly rounds to get the win. Scored the bout a year or two latter beliving that it was a close bout. I don't know my exact score, but it was a clear win for Mayweather. I don't recall giving De La Hoya more than 3 rounds.
i saw the fight in a bar full of Oscar fans who cheered every time the camera showed Oscar on his stool in the corner. I had it something 9-3 and the 3 was being kinda generous. By the end of the night the crowd was silent and only my and a buddy who were cheers for PBF could be heard ( another couple of buddies sat there with a tear in their beer by the end of the night) . . . I could not hear the commentators all night. I thought the fix was in when I heard the cards starting to be announced. Even my buddy who was as big an Oscar fan as you could not see how that was scored a SD. He had it like 7-5 for PBF and he said that he gave the closer rounds to Oscar
At the time of the fight it was actually hugely debated who won. On most poles after, most people thought it was a tie, a delahoya win, and bottom of the topem pole was a mayweather win. I personally had it 7-5 Delahoya, due to higher volume of connects, good defense, and Mayweather's inactivity in the early rounds. In the late rounds Delahoya faded and Mayweather turned it up, just not too many rounds. I think right now we are seeing a dearth of Mayweather fans and the judgements are skewed. I don't care for either fighter and I just like good fights. Since it was so close and basically just a set up sparring match put on by both fighters just to make each other richer I really didn't care about the results to or to argue them.
Like I said, even Steward who was riding Floyds nuts all night that night had to admit Floyd was losing and had to pick it up if he wanted to win. The fight was pretty damn even at the 8th round. Floyd can't win rounds throwing one jab at a time, backing up, while Oscar is furiously pursuing him landing jabs off everything including many on mayweathers body and shoulders, and throwing A LOT more combo's and punches. Mayweather did finally pick it up as Oscar started to gas in the last quarter of the fight. But make no mistake, that fight was very close 1-8 rounds.
