In the 2nd round of the Mosley fight when he was hurt bad, he could've said no mas...but he didn't. He could've walked right out and claim he had cramp, true boxing fans would know that makes it a NC...but he didn't. On 24/7 footage of him training, he could've claimed it was a lookalike and he'd not actually trained...but he didn't. Heres the double standard. Roberto Duran gets more credit for hisloss, in which he was clearly outclassed by Hagler, and yet anal robertards can somehow claim he won...than any victory Mayweather has.
I don't know about the last paragraph, but i'm not one of those that think he almost won that fight and there isn't any fight with similar circumtances involving Floyd to even compare it with.Still, it was an extremely worthy and notable effort wouldn't you say?.Duran, though still capable of being very good, was past his best and well above his best weight, fighting one of the best middleweights of all-time. I've a pretty low opinion of what Duran did against Leonard and not fond of the cramps excuses etc, but luckily heart or the will to win isn't a constant(Benn and mosley could tell you all about that). Old cashflow hasn't exactly found himself in those sort of situations against that level of fighter has he.You think Duran would have quit against Mosley, or maybe Judah or hatton.
Yes it definatley is a notable effort that he made the distance, against in my opinion, THE best middleweight of all time, where most failed to make the distance. But that is all it is. Once again, like every single fight he lost, there are numerous excuses. And they are excuses, because the loss is excused. Past prime, blown up lightweight means it doesnt count? What does it count for Hagler if so? Nothing? Two men step into the ring to fight, both willing and able, but if the one expected to win, wins, then its null and void? It wasn't an impossible task. If he's full on god-mode its certainly possible. Hundreds have been successful above their prime weight, albeit a big one, weight is only one variable. But thats not even the problem here. Its the fact that this clear loss is glorified. Theyre not even playing the doesnt count card. Its essentially viewed a victory. Which essentially it isnt. On the flip-side Mayweather gets the opposite treatment. I'll prove this with a poll. What would you consider Mayweather's most impressive performance? Corrales, De La Hoya, Judah?
Yeah, but almost all the great fighters have excuses and back stories for their losses, it comes with the territory. You just have to sift through it all and use some common sense as to what is likely to be true and use your own judgement from watching the fights, if possible. Look at how a lot of FLoyd fans use the injury thing as the reason why the first castillo fight was so close for a quick example.IF Floyd had lost that fight you can be damn sure it would be more emphasised, especially as he won the rematch. I thought Marv beat Duran by about 5 or 6 points incidentally.
I think lora has explained things quite well pac. I myself as a duran fan am somewhat outraged at his indiscipline and blunders in several major fights, and i dont make excuses for him. His indiscpline was part of the detraction of his greatness. Nontheless,he has many great and almost unique achievements which cannot be scoffed at or 'excused' away... Its a great plus that mayweather is soo disclpined and always ready for a fight. But its unfortunate that he hasnt got the great fighters around to cement his greatness. Still, duran late stoppage or UD.
No excuses for Duran's loss to Hagler, he looked as sharp as I saw him post-Leonard that night, especially considering his weight. I have never and will never make any excuses for the guy. That is irrelevant to my scorecard.
