Why I find the "Mayweather has no heart" stuff amusing:good

 

Styles make fights by the way.

I don't care how great Sugar Ray Robinson was. There were still guys about before or since, who would have beaten him. Guys in his own era beat him convincingly

Guys in Durans era beat him convincingly.

However, Duran was a special fighter. And I'd say, if anyone was going to beat Mayweather, it might be him.

He had it all. Could box any way he wanted.

Still, Duran struggled with runners. And counter punchers. I'd say Mayweather would win a few, if they fought 10 times

 

I'm of the school of:

A great technician, at his peak, will always beat a great brawler at their peak.

Why? Techicians usually have a plan A, B, C, D and E going into the ring. If something doesn't work, they can adapt quickly. They always find a way to win.

Chavez versus Whittaker being a good example. Whittaker worked him out pretty quickly and adapated. Chavez had no plan B of his own.

Saying that, calling Duran a brawler is ludicrous.

He out boxed Leonard, at his peak, at the age of 30, moving up two weights, very easily, for 12 rounds. He wasn't brawling that night. He was boxing a pure fight.

Duran was a great brawler. But he was great at a lot of things

 

To say cause Mayweather struggled with Castillo, means he would struggle with Duran, might not necessarily be true imo. Castillo didn't just! apply pressure, its the kind! of pressure he applied that made him effective, he was very patient with the strategy he employed, now to my mind, Duran was a more impatient fighter, which is why I think he had issues with the movement of Batten, Laing, Benitez, and Leonard, now Mayweather's greatest asset, IMO, is his legs, his movement, so I think Duran's lack of patience, ability to cut the ring down, and Floyd's movement, would give him real issues. I take the point that Duran fought Batten, Laing, Benitez at a higher weight, but maybe there's still something in that? Having said that, Duran was more aggressive at 135, he seemed more fighter than a Boxer back then, and because he didn't have to worry as much about getting hit, cause of his ability to take a punch, and that the fact he was being hit by smaller men, he would apply a lot more pressure, which made it easier for him to close the range down imo. Vilomar Fernandez was someone Duran beat, a guy who beat Arguello, albeit in a 10 rounder, and he's someone who used lots of movement, then you have guys like Viruet, he also used lots of movement, but Duran still managed to get to him to them at the lower weight, that said, it might say something about fighters who use movement, but dont have the ring generalship of a Mayweather, as to why Duran was gradually able to get to them, but you also have to factor in, that Mayweather is not a particularly big puncher, and that Duran back then, due to being at 135, was harder to hurt, so could walk through more of a fire to put it on you, that said, I think the fact that Duran would close distance more aggressively, would allow Floyd to use the % against him, as he would be able to use the quality over quantity against Duran by taking advantage of his defense, because! Duran was being more aggressive and walking in more.

People dont crucify Salvador Sanchez for having issues with Pat Cowdell, Ruben Castillo, so I dont see why its fair to criticize Mayweather for having issues with Castillo.

I'd pick Mayweather, but wouldn't rule Duran out.

Depends which Duran turns up, the one from the sugar ray 1 fight would simply wear floyd down, then again i havent seen Floyd struggle against a fighter for 12 rounds and have to constantly adapt so its hard to say. You could mention the castillio fight but Floyd avenged that (win/loss/draw) immediatley.

I would have to say Duran Via a split decision if Floyd was to last the 12.

 

Mayweather was also 21.

Castillo was also huge. 147 pounds in ring. He was as heavy as Oscar was with Pacquiao
