The deal by Showtime is one of the stupidest ****ing deals ever, to the point that 870,000 is a bad number. Floyd would have to damn near set records in all of his fights to keep the network from bleeding money. Floyd is immensely popular, but you only give that sort of guaranteed deal to a Mike Tyson.
Arum will put his chinese boxer on the under card to bolster the numbers for Pac/Rios. It's smart but most of the fans will be there to see their home town fighter. Pac/Rios might do really big number because of it minus my 1 buy, I'll wait for the replay.
well i never made any bold predictions for this fight because i knew what i was dealing with... the most i expected was a solid mill tops..
The reason this didn't do well is because Guerro was probably the LEAST known/followed opponent Floyd has faced in many years.(It's his worst numbers since Judah) All of the following had more fans and exposure: Oscar Hatton Marquez Mosley Ortiz Cotto The numbers aren't bad considering most people don't even know who the **** Robert is.
Floyd did 870k with a 11-1 underdog. They should be excited, imagine what they would do with a 4-1 underdog like Canelo
If true which I doubt. Thats still a huge number. Even De la Hoya had a few Ppv under 500, 000. Floyd has doubled that.
Floyd: i thought they would be higher, we need someone who i beat and bring in the MONEY Floyd sr: don't worry son i'll talk to the media "Khan we're coming for you". :deal
IF those numbers are real, this was a disaster for showtime execs who proved to be no smarter than the average Floyd fan thinking he can break the 1mil ppv mark against any opponent. And you're damn right they will be pressuring Floyd to fight someone like Canelo. Otherwise we are looking at 4 more fights not reaching the mil mark.
Nothing to do with pressuring floyd. Canelo was always on the list of floyd's possible opponents. The fact that this fight had no press tour and the fact Guerrero was an 11-1 underdog makes these numbers impressive. If these numbers are true.
Hard to say. Espinoza might be on a mission to drain Showtime's coffers into GBP's coffers. Otherwise, I'm sure the Showtime lawyers provided an out of some kind.
I don't think anybody who calls themselves boxing fans should be so happy that a major boxing event didn't do well.
The spin and desperation in this thread is entertaining. Especially when you consider the guys spinning have nothing at stake other than some message board turf war. Carry on, please. op
