Mayweather vs Hatton, something I notice the second time watching it.

Yes, PBF was rocked but came right back.

 

i still dont see him being rocked and i keep watching the same time span where he was mentioned to be rocked

 

Yup he was rocked amd was also hurt in the 6th just before Hatton threw that punch to the back of the head.

He ate a big hook from Hatton, was stunned for like a second and came right back. Nothing major and nothing like Cotto when he's rocked, that's for sure.

 

It was a light stun, I remember Chop-chop Corley stunned Mayweather alot worst, specially in the 4th. I think Corley did better than both De La Hoya and Hatton against Mayweather. Hurting wise.

Yes. You are correct. I noticed it the first time through. Hatton hurt Mayweather in several exchanges. Hatton deserves more credit for his efforts than some folks have been giving him.

 

Some thoughts on the fight:

1. It was not exciting as many made it out to be. Bottom line is it was only a semi-fight because Hatton kept attacking. Floyd was minimalist with his output as usual, despite what some say, still moved a lot, and when Hatton was close, Floyd grabbed and held and ducked down face first incessantly.

2. Joe Cortes allowed Floyd to hold, grab around the head, and push his forearm into Hatton WAY too much. He also broke them too quickly. This fundamentally affected Hatton, who was prevented from doing anything about it, particularly after Cortes rode him so much.

3. Bottom line though is that Floyd is too tough a puzzle for Hatton because he has superior defense. Hatton was too straight up and dropped his hands too much. Floyd with his speed was able to feint and slide back and sniper Ricky with a single shot, then duck and grab and smother and render null and void most of Hatton's inside work.

4. Hatton was almost done for in the 8th round, and the only thing that saved him from getting KO'd then was that Floyd ran into a solid right that rocked him a bit, and then he decided to play it cool and defend for another round and wait for his moment again.

4. Most fans (and many writers) don't want to hear or believe this, but the reality is that style-wise, Paul Williams is THE ONLY welterweight with a chance to defeat Floyd. Height, reach, southpaw, can move, throws a LOT of punches - a style nightmare for Mayweather. If Floyd defeats him, he'll earn the P4P designation in my eyes. Until then, I will not see him as the P4P he claims he is. Ricky Hatton is a very good fighter, but let's face it, he was life and death with Luis Collazo. Oscar was old and relatively inactive, and Floyd barely beat him, if you think he did. Judah can't win a big one. Let's see Floyd defeat a true welterweight in his prime who can box - Paul Williams.

 

dont know how you can make williams p4p number 1 by beating pbf,as u say his style is made for mayweather,do you not think that he would have to beat some fighters who his style isnt made for ,likes of cotto?

 

I watched the HBO replay for the first time and was surprised that Lederman had the fight even after 7! After reading all the posts on this board, I had the impression it was a complete blow-out for PBF. Alot of you guys overestimated this win. Floyd won, but it was a closer than what you reported. Cortez should be banned from refereeing ever again, he was so baised. Floyd hit Hatton behind the head with a left and Cortez said nothing.

Well the judges had it as a blow out, and they're the only ones that matter.

 

Not really he looked more surprised thin stunned , because ricky stepped to his right and landed just when floyd was going to continue to beat him along the ropes. in any case hatton really didn't have anything on the shot.
