Mayweather, I think, manages to avoid death. He's not winning this matchup mind you, but if he plays it smart and boxes the way Benitez did, he can certainly hear the final bell.
We just had this match up: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/floyd-mayweather-jr-vs-thomas-hearns.681138/ Btw anyone who thinks Mayweather will win be prepared to get a flaming as I did in this thread lol!
Hearn's himself doesn't think he would KO Floyd. From The Ring: “I think that he could go the distance with me. I would have to out-think him and definitely out-jab him. He’s a shorter man. So he can’t get to me. “I would have to keep the jab on him and keep him at a distance. Force him to use his head movement all of the time. “Somewhere down the line, I would probably hit him with a couple of right hands. “I would probably get him with a good right hand if not an average right hand. If I was to go to the body, you know that might play into what he is probably trying to do strategically. “I think that if I got closer to him trying to land a body shot, that would be what he wants. So I think that my best thing would be to stay on the outside and box him. “But I think that he could go the distance with me.”
Tommy being very generous there. It's one of those hypotheticals ( like Vitali v Marciano), where the higher ranked fighter on the 'greatness' scale , would probably lose head to head. Tommy by KO. Maybe Tommy on points.
Hearns was being kind. (Maybe he was trying to get a loan from Floyd.) Tommy beats him inside, outside, medium range ... on points, via TKO, via brutal one-punch KO, via cut, via closed eye, via body shot ... Any way he wants to do it. Floyd has ZERO chance against Tommy Hearns. Not a chance at all. Not even a little bit. That cross-armed defense doesn't protect your temple. And one bullet from "the Hitman" to the temple puts Floyd out. No former super feathers go the distance in a pro ring with Hearns. Forget winning. You can put on all the weight you like, it isn't happening. Ask Duran.
