Yeah, of all the WW champions throughout history, surely Hearns is the one Floyd has the least chance of beating! It's very difficult to imagine, how he could possibly do that.
I made a case in the other Hearns vs Mayweather thread, I would again but honestly can't be bothered by the blowback from the ding dongs on here who don't understand what a gentlemanly hypothetical discussion is, most likely because they have trouble reading
ROFLMAO You wouldn't get Floyd in the same arena as the Hit Man. Look how Floyd freaked out at the sight of Antonio Margarito standing in front of him. What was good about it was it in front of a crowd & videos were taken. The way Floyd stammered & stuttered like Daffy Duck was hilarious. If ever a supposed P4P #1 embarrassed himself that was it. Floyd "retired " again too didn't he. Surprisingly It happened that Floyd & Oscar too suddenly didn't have to worry any more about fighting Margarito due to the "loaded gloves debacle where he had his boxing license stolen by the CSAC for 2/1/2 years, because they SUSPECTED he was guilty of it I wonder who was really behind that ? I know who I suspect !!!!!!!
Same could be said for Hearns. At least Mayweather fought and dominated at least one fighter in Diego Corrales who had enormous height and reach over him and could box AND has vicious KO power... Which of Hearns opponents had the style or the timing similar to Mayweathers that you could point to? And I've said before, Hearns was clearly the bigger fighter, I would favor him at any of the higher weights just based off his size, but at 147, he would be highly vulnerable, and his spindly legs and March of Dimes physique win be in for a long night against the solidly built Mayweather
Diego Corrales didn’t have enormous height and reach over Floyd. He had a few inches in height, but Floyd had the bigger reach. Floyd had a very big reach for a man of his size. Floyd had a reach advantage over almost all of his opponents. Diego Corrales had no real similarities to Hearns. Wilfred Benitez had a similar style to Floyd. Hearns was only ever vulnerable against power. Power that Floyd didn’t possess. Floyd had nothing for Hearns.
Hearns isn't "highly vulnerable" at 147, not even remotely close. Highly vulnerable to knocking people out maybe. It took SRL, almost universally acclaimed as the second best welterweight in history 14 rounds to get to him, busted up and trailing on the cards as he, a master boxer, was outboxed after Hearns got into trouble then went into boxer mode. Hearns "spindly legs and March of Dimes physique" helped themselves to a record of 32-0 with 30 KO's going into the Leonard match. Numerous top 10 contenders couldn't find the finish line before he completely annihilated Ceuvas who was both a murderous puncher and extremely durable. Pipino had defended his WBA title 11 times, leaving behind broken jaws and eye sockets. One would love to be that highly vulnerable that's for sure.
If either of Hearns at 147 or Corrales at 130 were vulnerable it was definitely the latter. Corrales looked like a famine victim at SFW. I'm prepared to be corrected, but I also seem to recall Corrales failing initially to make weight for the Floyd bout and needing to shed a couple of pounds in a couple of hours. Not a huge surprise really since he had already said he couldn't comfortably make 130 anymore. As you allude, Hearns and Corrales are night and day in almost every conceivable way.
A useful, corrective post in response to a perspective, which might have been difficult to make any more erroneous.
I've watched a handful of Benitez fights, and he doesn't remind me anything of Floyd. And Floyd certainly had enough power to get the respect of men with far sturdier chins than Hearns. It was enough to get Canelos respect, who's chin and durability are light-years above Hearns's. But to each his own, I'm not here to change your mind. You take your Mayweather hate and jealousy with you everywhere you go and that must be a tough enough way to go through life as it is. It's perfectly fine to pick against the man, but to come on to a well respected boxing forum and suggest that he would stand no chance against ANYONE from throughout the history of the 147 division is both asinine and moronic.
Get out of here with this BS. Nobody hates Floyd. Nobody has hated on Floyd. Seriously, it’s pathetic. You’re coming across like a social media casual fan who uses that as a retort, if someone says anything that they don’t like. Jealousy?? SMH. I come here to discuss boxing. Floyd was a genius. One of the greatest fighters who’s ever lived. In this specific fantasy up, Hearns would have been heavily favoured though. Not due to a hatred or an emotional dislike of Floyd, but because it would have been a terrible stylistic match up for Floyd. Regarding Benitez, no, he and Floyd weren’t exactly alike. But they were both exceptionally skilled, defensive counterpunches who were of a similar size. Benitez, just like Leonard, Duran, Marvin and Hill, couldn’t outbox the much bigger Hearns. Hearns wasn’t just huge. He was huge but was also a great boxer too. And because he couldn’t outbox Hearns and he didn’t have the firepower to hurt him, he lost a decision. You keep talking about Hearns being vulnerable. But Hearns was never vulnerable in a boxing match. Hearns was only vulnerable in shootouts, when he was pressured with huge strength and firepower. Now as great as Floyd was, he didn’t possess any firepower. So he couldn’t have put Hearns into a vulnerable position. He wasn’t going to jump on him like Marvin, or have a shootout with him like Leonard did. Regarding Canelo, Canelo wasn’t worried about Floyd’s power. He was bothered by his speed, which came from a bigger reach. You are looking at these things all wrong. It doesn’t matter if you think Canelo has a better chin than Hearns. It has no relevance whatsoever when looking at a match up between Floyd and Hearns. How would Floyd have realistically won the fight?? Hearns was 6’1 with a huge 78” reach. He had a laser jab and a detonator in his right hand. Floyd couldn’t have outboxed him, and he’d have been ultra cautious of that right hand. Again, he also had no power to have enforced a stoppage. Also, at WW and JMW, Floyd had slowed down and was past his best, with a lower punch output, where he threw less combinations, in a more safety first style in the majority of his fights. He also had bad hands which he sometimes needed injections in. So you tell me how you think he’d have won the fight. Also, look at Floyd’s characteristics and his actions throughout his career, and ponder to yourself how confident and aggressive Floyd would have been in the fight.
