Floyd won't be effective at 140. The Jesus Chavez fight was ages agoatsch The ship has sailed on Floyd's days at Jr WW.
You obviously do not understand the dynamics of weight cutting in boxing. If a juan Diaz is to cut weight, there would be no proiblem because he has a belly fat to cut, but with someone who has a 2-3 percent body fat, he will lose muscle mass when he cuts weight and thus lose strength in the process. May is a small welter by height but he is realtively broader than JMM in terms of truncal size. Why would he lie? I am not accusing FMJ of lying but if he did, there are several obvious reasons but the most important is to downplay his advantages in this match-up. People are dissing him for asking a 135 fighter to go to 144 already, so probably, he wants to state that I do not even have the size advantage to begin with. The Mayweathers are not exactly beacons or models of moral values. JMM in order to fight compettively at 144 have to gain mass, not simply water, but muscle mass to become stronger. His punches at 135 will not be enough if he is faciong a llegitimate 147 fighter, In doing so, he bulks up, but the downside to bulking up is losing speed. That is why you do not see muscular badminton players or track stars. So the further the weight to his naturalk weight, the more he has to bulk up, the more he will compromise speed. Mayweather on the other hand had to cut weight and since he is not exactly fat as he is always in good physical condition in between fights, then he might lose muscle mass and stregth.
Exactly. It was years ago! He'd be cutting less weight at a higher weight. Floyd Mayweather stays in shape year round. By doing so, it allows him to cut water weight effectively. The average body can cut 10lbs of water weight give or take. By staying in shape, ups it even more. Look at Pacquiao, by staying in great shape year round he was able to routinely cut 15lbs to make weight.
If Mayweather goes to 140 and loses to Pac it will be used as an excuse. I'd rather the fight take place at 147, no excuses.
No, you clearly don't. Cutting weight is WATER weight, not fat. The average human body cut 10lbs. Staying in shape, makes it even more. Floyd Mayweather, if he went to 140. Would be losing water weight. Meaning he would dehydrate, he wouldn't be cutting fat or muscle to make it. Why? Because his body can cut that much weight. When you gain muscle, you also gain more water weight, therefore, more water to lose. You clearly are confusing the dehydration process and thinking a boxer must lose muscle if he's in Floyds shape. Look at Manny. He's ripped on fight night, yet was cutting 15lbs! And he didn't have an ounce of fat to spare. Explain that atsch Mayweather stated his weight in a not so public interview that is on youtube. It was never reported in any articles or aired on TV. Did you see the countdown video? The size difference has been greatly exaggerated. And Marquez and Floyd are single digit lbs apart.
I want it at 140. Cause when he wins at 147. People will complain of Mayweather forcing Pac up. Despite the high chance that Pac will outweigh him.
eze, I'm disappointed that you're trying to suggest Marquez is the same size as Mayweather. Sure they may only be pounds apart now but we know that isn't the same thing.
I never said they are, I said the are close. Look at the countdown video, you can see that Mayweather does not even come close to dwarfing Marquez like these fools make it out to be.
The difference with the other boxers that you mentioned is that they baloon in between fights. Hoay walks around 160-165, Pac rpobably now at 150. But those weights were gained by their lavish eating habits, similar to Hatton. Those are fats, that is first sacrificed when you cut weight. FMJ on the other hand walks around near his fighting weight in between fights, which tells you that he is a gym rat. The difference betwen a gym rat and the one who yoyos his weight is their bodyt fat proportion. Mayweather basically is what you get it when he starts training, while Hatton, Hoya has to start whittling away those excess poundage, the fats gained after so many San Miguel beer. Meaning to say, FMJ is already a sculptured product when he prepares for a fight, while Pac and the others arrive like raw marble.
True, their heights are not much different. Even the Pac-Cotto is almost of the same height, so nobody in any of these match-ups dwarf another. But we are talking of body mass or densities if you want. If 135 and 147 are the same, then to hell with it. JMM should be fighting at 140 easily then.
You have things confused. Pac is probably 150 right now. When he would start heavy training, in probably a week or 2 He'll be at his fighting weight. Which is 148. The rest of the time, he's training and practicing for his fight, not losing weight. When it comes time to weigh in, he starts the cutting process. Which he will cut to 140. (The Hatton fight example) Pac's done this process a thousand times. Pac dehydrated himself and when he woke up, he found himself at 136/137. Thus allowing him to eat a full breakfast in the morning before the weigh in. And he weighed 138. Hatton spends half his camp or more getting into shape than he does practicing for his fight. Hatton's camps are more weight loss than they are focusing on the other fighter. Hatton loses fat down to 154 (His fight weight) He then CUTS water weight to make 140. Floyd and Pac are gym rats / people who stay in shape year round. Pac can cut 15lbs for you right now, but he doesn't anymore because he's moved up. Floyd can cut 6/7lbs from 146/147 to 140. He chooses not to. Although fighters can do this, some of them don't like it. My friend who fights in MMA cuts 20lbs from 205 to 185. And the last 5 are killer. He hates the process but he must do it. Floyd can easily cut to 140. Specially if he is weighing 146 right now. Like I said. Pac was cutting 15lbs of water weight to make 130 and he had no fat to spare. Losing fat and getting in shape, is different from cutting water weight, you are intertwining the two.
I wasn't talking about just height. Marquez and Mayweather are closer in size than what's made out to be. 135 and 147 aren't the same. But when you have a fighter like Mayweather who when he fights at 147 doesn't gain but maybe a lb or 2. While when Pac was fighting at 135 he was weighing 144 already. Floyd doesn't cut extreme amounts of weight like most fighters do to make weight.
You can not cut water for so long otherwise your kidneys shut down. Trust me because I have a medical degree. What fighters do is cut weight to around 3-4 pounds above the stipulated weight limit not by limiting water intake but by honest to goodness, really dieting and exercise, then dehydrate a day before the weigh-in. That is why they need to rehydrate because it is extremely dangerous to fight dehydrated. Dehydrated fighters are more prone to Cerebral bleeding or brain bleeds, which is relatively more common during the time when weigh-in occur on the same day as the fight (simply because fighters were not allowed to rehydrate. Now as to the degree on how much they dehydrate, some do at extreme extent. But you can not train and be dehaydrated at the same time, because you will not have the speed and power.
Of course fighters rehydrate. Fighters don't cut weight one day before the fight, it's a process days before the fight. You restrict intake. Running and sitting in the sauna are other pieces but mainly fighters lose the weight by their food intake. Most fighters aren't heavily training the 3-4 days they are doing their calorie restriction to cut weight. Mayweather can easily make 140. He's cut 8/9lbs before. He can easily do 7 at a HIGHER weight.
