For everyone saying Floyd looked awful, and that Maidana is a horrible fighter, this is what happened. Any version of Floyd vs Maidana doesn't look good. Maidana is sloppy, and Floyd did all he could do to beat him. It's hard to look good against Maidana. Technically, he's not the best fighter, and he's only good when he has you against the ropes. His speed is awful, he doesn't throw straight punches, and he can't cut off the ring. But put yourself in Floyd's shoes, he's used to guys who can do all those things. Being a fighter myself, there is nothing more irritating than fighting someone who is a brawler relying on their power punch and nothing else. There's a lot of holding, staying away from their punch, wild non technical exchanges, clinching, it's just ugly, but that's fighting for ya. Styles make fights, and that's what tonight was. There was no way Floyd could make that fight look pretty, but he did what he had to do. Not a Floyd fan, but he won tonight, impressively against a wild fighter
It's what happens when you refuse to face A level competition. Its gets sloppy looking. Even Floyd admitted on the Showtime reality show that Maidana and his last few opponents are B level. He says it to be flattering of himself, but even he knows hes hand picking B level. There are several A level fighters he can fight now and he still doesnt want to.
Floyd had a good game plan. He knew he was faster than Maidana, but he also knew that Maidana could break his face and crack his head open, so when Maidana got close to drop bombs, he held, and he held until the ref made him stop, and when the ref never made him stop, he continued doing it and picked Maidana apart with his speed. if these two guys were fighting at the beginning of their careers, Maidana probably leaves Floyd an unconscious heap on the mat, but since they're fighting at a time when Floyd has seen it all and knows all the tricks, the result was pretty predictable. Boxing is a mental game at the highest level and Floyd won that game tonight.
Name them. Regardless of your opinion of Floyd, denying that Canelo and rematching Maidana, a guy who gave him the business and he didn't have to rematch, were solid opponents, is silly and I think you know it, but you're unable to think rational because you watch boxing with your heart and not your brain.
Agreed but Floyd did take some shots he wouldn't normally have taken - hard jabs for instance and his lip and nose were noticeably swollen at the end of the fight as a result.
Like who exactly? Who is better than Maidana,Cotto, Mosley and Alvarez and dont say Golovkin he is not in the equasion. You going to say Khan? Yet as soon as this fight was mentioned it will be a cherry pick as he is glass jawed. Garcia has never fought at 147. Brook is untested and still green even though he is 30-0. He beat Porter, another green and untested fighter. Matthysee is a 140lb fighter with several losses. Pacquiao is fighting Algieri and will probably fight provodnikov or JMM next. Lara just lost. Thurman has beaten who exactly to make Floyd run scared? Bradley would be a good fight but again he works with Arum and has just lost. Cotto rematch was laughed at when it was rumoured on here. Now he is ducking him? # I honestly think Floyd looks beatable even though Maidanas horrible style made him look worse. His punch output has decreased and his legs looked heavy in the championship rounds. But this ducking bull**** is getting unbearable, as soon as any fighter gets a half decent win these days it seems Floyd is ducking him. If becoming 47-0 without facing any real opposition was that easy then everyone would do it.
Wow i thought i heard it all on this forum, even farmboxer wouldnt make such a crazy statement!! You really think a 140lb Maidana lasts 3 rounds with a prime Mayweather?!!!! Floyd is one of the fastest fighters of all time, nobody successfully stood and traded with him in his prime are you crazy!! The guy didnt always pot shot you know, the featherweight version has power in both hands and threw lightning combinations. He had a high KO ratio back in the day. Maidana is a better fighter now than he has ever been, Floyd is not and he still couldnt KO him.
what fool, fights to ther opponents strenghts again? why, could marcos not force floyd to the ropes again? Remember, the dirty advice from garcia fool in the 1st fight?
