The last true P4P champion was Roy Jones. You have to be dominant to be considered the P4P champion. And guys like Pacman, Mayweather, Marquez, Hatton have not. They been great but havent dominated a division like RJ. The title should just be retired until another talent like him comes along.

Logic would say that you would then look at the merits of the different boxers rather than anyone getting the position by default.

That doesnt seem a very popular opinion, however.

Arum and Floyd don't like one another. Arum has said he doesn't imagine ever reaching an agreement on a fight with Floyd becausetheir egos would probably consume one another (and the entire galaxy in the process). Not only that but Arum said the fight would have to be at 140 or no fight at all.

I think once they got to the bargaining table it would all fall apart. Arum says Pac is the attraction, Floyd disagrees. Floyd wants more, Pac wants less etc etc etc.

Instead of all that I think Arum would probably just turn to Cotto and say "batter up Miggy". I don't see him and Floyd coming to any sort of fiscal agreement.

How many times can he lose and stay number one?

Indeed. When the material writes itself you know you've got a problem.

Until there is a better argument for another fighter being #1 - JMM beating Mayweather or Hatton beating either of those two (which is unlikely)

Or another boxer proving they are the best. At the minute pac has a strong resume for p4p#1...unless there is no p4p #1 until the JMM/Mayweather fight

Cotto needs to beat a reigning champion to be considered a champ, not fighting for vacant titles.

Floyd will never give Cotto or any other welter a chance to fight him.

WTF is that P4P belt that do not even exist, fans are the one that choses the p4p champion not beating a man that is a champion if you are out of the top ten and beat a the top guy you are the new champion, thats bull****. Just STFU all of you that are metioning that p4p belt is ont he line. That is only mentioned because of promotion no more, and Hatton claiming glory by beating a smaller guy. STFU Hatton STFU all of you that follow his bull****.

I will agree with this for the simple fact that if either of these fighters wins you could honestly say that he's p4p without having to bull**** yourself and everyone around you. On the other hand if Ricky hatton beats Manny, which he has an excellent chance of doing, you can't honestly say with a striaght face that Ricky Hatton is he best pound for pound boxer in the world.

RJJ wasn't p4p the best for me beating contenders and bums do not make him the best, Early in his carrer He was on the right place but then suddenly he became a joke. Trinidad, Oscar and Mosley whre diferent animals, even with les talet they fought the best out there.

Once Floyd is officially unretired, he's #1 P4P again. I'm not particularly a fan, but he is clearly the best fighter going. The only reason he stopped being #1 is because he retired. Anyone #1 in the meantime was #1 by default.

Hey but don't forget the skills are a major part of being p4p #1, and Roy showed godlike skills in every fight. And it's not his fault no one wanted to fight him.

    :good

Fighting a guy coming up from 135 to 145 to fight him won't elevate his p4p "title", he would already be #1 regardless.

Edit: But if Pac wins today, he's the p4p#1.

you can give your p4p title to whoever you want, unless Hatton proves otherwise the best fighter in the sport is Pac
