Good news its on regular Sky but i suppose it really puts into perspective how pathetic the Khan PPV's are.
You have to see it from a marketability point of view, mate. A lad at college told me he went to see JC fight Kessler, I started talking about Pacquiao-JMM to him and he didn't have a clue who they were. Sadly, at that point in time, I realised there and then that boxing fans who actually know some of the sports' biggest stars are few and far between:-(. There is absolutely no way that Sky can make a sizeable amount of money by putting this on PPV. As you say, it really shows the Khan (et al) PPV's up for what they are, though:good.
It's quite depressing when you think about it.... Who's to blame for the fact these sort of pugilists remain virtually unknown?? PPV's and lack of action on normal tv OR have people just stopped caring about the sport.??
Funnily enough I was talking to slip about this the other day. I blame the lack of exposure on TV and the alphabet organisations. How many normal men on the street can name the HW champ right now let alone the cruiser or welterweight champ? I make a confident guess that none would. I grew up in a household where I was the only who liked sports so I wasn't exposed to 'marquee-name' boxing until I reached an age where I was working and could subscribe to PPV's and Sky Sports. I reckon I would have loved boxing as a child but I was never exposed to it- that raises a more interesting point: How many people are out there right now who could potentially be boxing fans? The fact that they don't get to see the big bouts on a free platform pretty much excludes them from ever being interested, IMO. Boxing used to be absolutely huge in the UK; Gaz said the other day that if you asked each sports fan in the eighties what their second fave sport was after their fave one the most common answer was always 'boxing'. I guarantee that if the study were done now, boxing would not come up second:-(. Boxing could be huge again but radical changes need to happen, IMO. It's no coincidence that UFC is taking over either. Another lad I get on quite well with at college once turned up in a UFC hoody. I thought to myself '**** me, they've got the business model 100% spot on- here's something it's fanbase can identify with AND it's free advertising!'
Yes Sky Sports(not Box Office) on the 20th 2am-5am.The undercard is looking good aswell EDIT-sorry for treading on your feet
cheers fellas just didnt know have heard very little from sky since it was postponed, funny how it was sbo before the postponememt and now its SSP 1, pac cotto is 100 % ppv especially with amir on the undercard somewhere
Is 24/7 on Sky??It starts on HBO this saturday. Please anybody:| Is Amir Khan actually fighting in Vegas on the undercard?Or will there be a separate UK bill beforehand?
24/7 will probably be on at a later time if it shown (not sure it will be), even Hatton vs Pacquiao/Mayweather was shown at a closer date to the fight in the UK compared to the time it was shown in the USA. I don't think there is a separate bill, and if Khan is to fight on a Vegas undercard it would possibly be on the Pacquiao vs Cotto card.
Cheers I checked the Sky TV guide for Sunday night through to Monday night and no sign of 24/7.That was earlier in the week so was about as far forward as I could look.I'll try again later. I hope they do show it.The two 24/7s involving Floyd have been far and away the best ones IMO.
I was looking over someones shoulder at one of the london papers on the way home tonight and the news of haye-valuev being in jeopardy was on a sidebar BELOW women's football. atsch
