I did notice JMM trying to take a look at the scales while Floyd was on them before the weight was announced, maybe something to do with this.
I love Mayweather and think he's a superb talent but this is a shitty move by him. If he wanted a tune up before the mooted Pacquiao fight then he should have gone for someone like Berto. This is a ***** fight and coming in at 146 is a ***** move. You could tell that wasn't the weight originally planned by the look on Marquez's face when he saw the 146 weight. I hope Floyd gets spanked now ! All this 'he payed him off last night ****' is irrelevant too. What was Marquez gonna do ? Say no **** off and throw away the chance at a payday bigger than he's ever had or will get ?? Now Marquez will pay even more for those 'extra pounds' come tomorrow night !
Contractual weight was the 147 pound welter limit, but penalties were written into the contract for excess poundage over 144. ”The penalty [for Mayweather] was a significant amount of money,” said Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer.
Bull****. If Floyd is not gonig to put any weight he could have easily lost 2 lbs water weight and saved himself some cash.
I am extremely pissed off at Mayweather after this and his comments about Manny Steward, hope (but not at all expecting) Marquez batters him. :smoke
Thats the thing Gaz. Now that Mayweather cannot weigh in at 144, and will definately be putting weight on and coming in at 150lbs on the night, then the excuse of him being a small Welter is now out of the window. He could get away with all this fighting smaller fighters when people were still saying he could probably make 140. Its clearly obvious now that he is a fully grown Welter, so after this he needs to be fighting men his own size. I wouldn't begrudge him a Pac fight however because of the P4P dispute and the fact Pac is fighting at similiar weights and has done for his 2 previous to Cotto. After that if he quits again or doesn't fight the likes of Cotto/Mosely/Margarito/Berto then i'll stop following him as a fan
I agree mate, I don't think Mayweather could do 140 and be strong. He's a welterweight these days (admittedly small one). I'd guess he could still do 144 if he had to though...;O) He's worked the head on JMM good and proper.
