So it was all just typical forum nonsense, getting carried away with speculation? :yep

Can't blame those who got confused... Even JMM himself and Nacho got confused... JMM even called up GBP for clarifications...

At first I thought so yet when JMM showed confusion and had to make a phone call to reconfirm then it clearly went beyond that.

wtf are u guys talking about

there are plenty of catchweight fights where titles are still on the line... ray leonard fought donny lalonde at a catchweight of 168 but lalonde's light heavyweight belt was still on the line even though the catchweight was 7 lbs below the weight class limit of 175

oscar fought bernard at a catchweight of... 155 or 156, i can't remember anymore... and all four of bernard's 160 lb. belts were on the line in that fight

as long as the fighters weigh in 147 or below, it's a welterweight fight... end of story

right on the button. weight classes are only weight limits, you can come in at whatever weight you choose as long as you do not exceed the weight limit. you can show up 135 to a WW match no problems, it just doesn't happen because no one is dumb enough.

that's why i don't get why someone would say 143-144. so that means that in this specific contract they can't weigh under 143? :?

One implication of this is, future PBF fights can be made at 144 too... If PAC-Cotto will also be at 144 then PAC-PBF and/or Cotto-PBF can also be made at 144 lbs. ...;)

But surely PBF cannot demand PAC a weight higher than 144... PBF will fight JMM at 144 so PBF should also fight PAC at 144...;)

I don't think going down to 144 will drain Mayweather.. I heard he walks around at 147 anyway, pointless catchweight.

Can someone confirm the highlighted above? I think Boxing Commissions will not allow some underweight boxer (who weigh in at 135) to fight a 147 lbs. boxer who could possibly balloon to 160 lbs. on fight night for health/safety reasons...

I think if it's a welterweight fight, the boxers involved can weigh in anywhere from above 140 up to the limit of 147...

No I'm not being sarcastic. There was a thread here last week that says it's at 138. And it's not hard to believe that . . . because Floyd can go down at 138.

    Oh I found it . . . and that dumbass is . . . as usual . . . radab. :D

Yeah, and how Hopkins Middleweight titles weren't on the line when he fought DLH at a catchweight.

    Oh, wait.....

**** catchweights. As if Pacquiao wouldn't be considered the welterweight champ if he beats Cotto.....
