when MW was going to fight hatton many were saying that he would run and potshot. they said that the only way that the fight would be exciting was if Hatton won .they also said that he would NEVER KO hatton. Now they are saying MW will run and potshot or clinch JMM? I say MW KO in the first 3 rounds.

I dont see much clinching in this fight but if it does happen its most likely to be on Floyd's behalf and shows that hes not there to make a statement but only to get paid and not lose.

I'm going to disagree with you my friend......

Mayweather tends to clinch when a vast amount of pressure is applied.......othewise not so much...

Against Hatton, Hatton wanted to get inside and stay inside.......Mayweather worked on nullifying Hatton on the inside in the gym.
Thats mainly what Mayweather prepared for, to hold his own by taking away Hatton's arsensal inside and not allowing Hatton's arms to roam free.

Marquez' arsenal is so much more varied than Hatton's, so its going to be much tougher tieing up a fighter who can let loose from so many different angles.

.....and you know how predictable Hatton is....

From my perspective, if we see alot of tieing up coming from Mayweather, its going to mean that boxistically he's getting outboxed by Marquez.

I've mentioned it before......the consensus in this forum was that Marquez-Casamayor would be an ugly fight infested with Casa's dirty deeds and tricks.....but JMM is so subtle when he steps slightly to the sides and fires, its hard for a fighter to get a hold of JMM's body to clinch, unless he's going to make it obvious like John Ruiz.......and that aint happening unless Mayweather wants to literally get booed out of the ring and runout with debree.

If there's alot of clinching, you will see that its because Marquez is being effective in close and at range.

Marquez is not going to be like DLH, chasing and aimlessly punching at a target he thinks might be there.
I cant begin to tell you how much better a tactical fighter JMM is ........

If Mayweather wins, he'll do it center ring and boxing, too quick and too fast.......otherwise, I'm liking JMM's chances more and more with each day going by......

Like I said, my opinion, if it gets to clinching, it will mean Mayweather is in some deep ****!

That would be a disadvantage to Floyd more than an advantage. When a taller man clinches, the shorter man with the shorter reach negates the disadvantage of a shorter reach. The shorter arms could still throw punches by simple rules of physics (shorter swinging arc). Besides with a lower center of gravbity for JMM, it would tire Floyd more than JMM if JMM makes it a pushing game. That is why compact wrestlers are harder to deal with.

Floyd is the taller man and I believe he will fight tall, meaning he will potshot with conviction until the later rounds when JMM have more or less tire, decreasing his KO power. The May will probably engage if he is true to his word. Engaging early is just plain stupid because any fighter can be KOed with a properly placed shot. There is no iron jawed or glassed jawed boxer when a punch lands perfectly to upset the balance center of the middle ear.

Now clinching will still happen but out of necesiity like defense or as respite. If it is the main plan, that is counterproductive.

Clinching is part of the sport if Cotto who is bigger than Pac doesn't clinch he will get KTFO.

i don't think so. i have a feeling marquez is gonna be in great shape for this fight and he's gonna try to make it a war. if there is any clinching i think its mostly gonna come from floyd, unless jmm gets stunned or hurt or something.

I would say that thats the one weakness in JMM's defensive arsenal.......he does'nt clinch.
The only time he was hurt against Pacquiao in round 3 or their rematch, not once did Marquez even attempt to get into a clinch.

Nacho Beristain does'nt teach it and I wish he would.
When a fighter is badly hurt, a clinch can buy him the time he needs to reset his marbles.

Cotto btw is the same way as JMM, he does'nt fall into clinches. Against Margarito, he badly needed a break as his legs would'nt hold him up, and if he could clinch, he may have bought himself a little more time.

Good Post However I didnt say that PBF would be tieing JMM up. I said I hope he doesnt because if they do clinch up i can see JMM getting muscled around.
Good to see you around Divac.
How are u seeing this fight playing out???
I thought JMM was crazy when he took this fight... However i can never count him out.

    Exactly.
Although in those exchanges towards the end of round 3 JMM was giving almost as good as he got.
