Forget about who you think would win, and we already know Pacquiao gets insane credit if he was able to beat Floyd, but what about the other way round? In light of seeing just how good Manny has become as a Welterweight, wouldn't it only be right to credit Floyd for pulling off a great victory if he was to ever beat Manny? Or would you criticize him for fighting a smaller fighter, who started at 106lbs? I never wanted to see the fight, but after Saturday night, I do.
It would easily be Mayweather's best win, career defining. Don't underestimate how competitive this fight would be though. It comes down to how much Mayweather's elusiveness and sporadic counter punching can reduce Manny's output, he will slow it, but he certainly won't stem the flow completely. Even someone like Judah was able to pick rounds up off Mayweather. Not to say Manny is certain to win (although i favour him), but i see a lot of people expecting him to only win 3 rounds, which is very unlikely i think, expect a very close fight (7-5 stuff either way). Mayweather has never really fought anyone who puts combinations together like Pacquiao, and although he is going to time Pacquiao with the right, he doesn't have a consistent enough output. I also think Mayweather will struggle to control the fight with a jab (it will certainly play a part in the rounds he does win though), which he will certainly like the idea of after witnessing moments of excellence from Miguel. He simply does not throw enough punches and take enough risks to do so. Mayweather likes proving his elusiveness by standing in front of you and showing off his shoulder roll and guard at times. This isn't a good idea against Pacquiao (better to stick and move constantly), sure he might time him with a good initial shot coming in, but Pacquiao flares up when you crack him and lets his hands go, and he will undo a lot of Floyd's good work timing him on the way in with volume in exchanges. Will have to think about it some more but those are some of my initial thoughts. Pacquiao by close decision.
I agree . I'd really like to see how Floyd would react in the later part of the fight if he was behind.
Manny has already shown he could fight with the big boys after the Cotto fight. No more advantages and tricking people that he is the smaller guy and Mayweather knows this. If this fight happens it would most likely be at 147.
as a pac fan, i always thought his last 3 fights were strokes of genius on roach's/arum's part. i.e. if he lost it was ok because he showed balls and the other guys were just too big; if he won, he gets even more elevated. conversely, i thought dlh, hatton and cotto wouldn't really gain anything from the fights legacy-wise since they were beating the smaller fighter. but these fights have shown that pac does belong with the bigger boys, so any win by floyd over pac (whether it's a hard-fought war, a brutal ko, a schooling, or even a boring potshotting to a ud) would get full credit from me.
yeah, I feel they would too.. personally I don't agree with it and I honestly don't think it would matter considering Floyd's style of fighting. I bet Cotto would feel a bit like an ass if this fight is made at 147 though...
This would be Mayweathers biggest win and legacy fight. he beats Pac hes a top 20 if you ask me. Pacquiao-Mayweather is what its all about
Pac beating Mayweather would mean more than Mayweather beating Pac. Sayingf that Mayweather beating Pac means more than anything else he could do! People seem to forget Pac was a FLYWEIGHT when he won his first world title, thats 5 divisions below the weight in which Mayweather won his first world title, so ofcourse itd be a bigger win for Manny. Whether it be 145 or 147 it doesnt matter, Mayweather can make 145 easily if need be. But personally id like it at 147 to save all the excuses if Manny were to win.
