I find this rumored move to MW at this time curious. Miranda, Taylor and soon Pavlik to move up. Mundine faced with Kessler now chooses what you considered and already weak MW division. If he could have made weight now, he could have made weight all along? No? Wouldn't the best available still be at SMW?
I won't even give you that one. Pavlik has one hell of a work ethic. Plus, judges know boxing is up agains MMA and I think they are starting to score for 'action'. People at ringside thought Hopkins scored the more telling blows against JC, but NOBODY wants to see that crap when they paid to see a fight.
Nope; no one has ever said that as far as i know, but these dumb ass Pav/PBF threads pop up ALL THE TIMEatsch
i suggested this match-up for Floyd a few months ago in a thread started by an overly dedicated fan (nuthugger) entitled WHO SHOULD FLOYD FIGHT NEXT? My response was treated as hostile by both the pro and anti Floyd posters, and as ridiculous by the Pavlik fans. (I'm a fan of neither guy. I like Pavlik and think he's getting better. I don't care much for Floyd, but I believe he's the best boxer currently out there and one of the top half dozen in my lifetime (goes back to SRR) in terms of raw talent). The idea comes from watching Oscar fight BHop. Oscar's first title was at 130 and he won titles at all weights up to 154. (Some would say 160, but the Sturm decision was a bit smelly). Floyd has won titles at all weights from 130 up to 154. Going to 160 should not be out of the question. Is Pavlik a bigger guy than BHop? Definitely not. Bernard began at 175 and has returned there. Is the Bernard who fought Oscar a better boxer than current Kelly ? Definitely. But Floyd is slightly better than that version of Oscar too. Floyd is undefeated. For his legacy, he needs to fight Cotto. At 154 he might take on, Forrest or Spinks. Or he might decide he's already had Oscar at that weight and skip on to 160. Either way, if he were to pull off a win over Pavlik, it ould cement his legacy and bolster some of his OWN claims (which, IMO are currently exaggerations) Could he win? Certainly. He's a much better overall boxer than Kelly. He wouldn't necessarily be laying on the ropes like he did with Hatton. Different opponents call for different strategies. He would have an uphill battle, but he could so it. I would rate his chances at between 25 and 30 %. It would certainly be a mega-fight. And he would be in a no-lose situation, given the expectations.
