Seriously Puga, you can't compare Cotto-Pacquiao with Mayweather-Marquez.

First of all, Marquez' highest PPV ever was 400k fighting Pacquiao in the rematch. Second, Marquez was moving up TWO weight divisions. Third, no one gave Marquez a shot, he was a HUGE underdog. Fourth, fans predicted this fight won't even make anything above 400k as the majority considered it a "joke" or "tune-up" seeing Marquez move up in weight like that.

 

PBF had no business in the ring with Wright who was a huge JMW.

 

Floyd was at 140 and Winky was at 160.. Fight shouldn't have happened, and it's a good thing it didn't.. Even so, Floyd should have just left Winky alone until they were closer in weight and not even mentioned him. I mean 7 years later and Floyd has only fought at 154 twice total, both against Champions who brought in tons of money.

But if you want some sort of victory for telling us Floyd asked an opponent 20lbs heavier than him to meet him 6lbs lower than the opponents normal weight, while going up 14 lbs himself, to not weigh a tremendous amount after the weigh in then have your victory.

 

Why are you still spinning things? I thought for the longest time 50-50 was fair but when you really look at the numbers PBF is the bigger draw and its not even close. Besides, Arum alone has announce the numbers for Pacs fights, not HBO, why is that? Most people on these boards know who the bigger draw is, what exactly is your point and what does it have to do with this thread?

Floyd jumping up 2 weight divisions to fight a guy like Wright in his weight class? And on top of that, he was still new to the JWW dvision and he wasn't getting that De La Hoya-type of money for such a risk. He was smart for letting this fall through.

And Wright was dumb for not accepting every single concession Floyd wanted to make this fight happen. I bet it is close to being numero uno on his worst career decisions list. Especially when you consider where both fighters are currently at in their careers.

 

Funny how you feel that way about Floyd but when Marquez moved up and Floyd didnt honor the contract you werent saying ****, and he did move up two divisons and expected to face a 145 pound Mayweather

You all talk about DLH being drained at 147 which I do agree, However Floyd was going to rematch Oscar at Welter, none of you were talking about weight when we had this on the horizon.
and had Floyd and Oscar fought at that weight I bet it would not have been Floyd drained him it would have been Floyd dominated out classed him out smarted him.

Bottom line if the fighter agrees there are no excuses as long as both men honor the contract and make the weight

Cotto has said it wasn't an issue but then he says he's not draining himself again, so.......................best to go ahead and leave that alone. He is NEVER the type of fighter to make excuses but he obviously wasn't comfortable with it.

The problem isn't about 2 fighters agreeing on a catchweight.

THE PROBLEM IS ONE BOXER FIGHTING ANOTHER FOR HIS TITLE AND THEN TELLING THE CHAMP WHAT WEIGHT THEY WILL FIGHT AT IN ORDER FOR HIM TO GAIN AN ADVANTAGE.

Cotto was not forced to agree, he could have said no, Arum didnt put a gun to his head. again he said it wasnt a problem Margarito said it wasnt a problem
