Gloves won't make a difference, the fight will be more tactical if anything....Cotto will circle to his right and if Floyd tries to apply pressure Cotto will tie him up and the battle of Cotto's jab vs Floyds straight right will take up a large portion of the fight.
140 and under 8oz. 147 if BOTH parties agree, 8oz. 154 and up, 10oz mandatory. NSAC rules so i'm interested how this will turn out. Winnings are padded heavy on the knuckle area so they look big but not.
Good observation- they are bigger in size, but not weight (you may know this, but some people don't so i'll say it anyways) Gloves of different brands come in different weight distributions. Some gloves put more 'cushion' in the front of the gloves making big pillowtop appearances to the hands. Others put more of the weight around the wrists allowing for less padded fists and smaller appearance. Also, stitching comes in different weights depending on manufacturers. Some use big fat stitching(cleto reyes springs to mind) while Grant makes a 'micro stitch glove' which weighs less than .1ounce per glove. This is why sometimes negotiations get stuck up about something as seemingly trivial as glove size. If my fighter recently had a hand injury, i'd want to have their hand protected so i'd try for a bigger cushioned front of the glove. The same is true of someone moving up in weight... if my fighter was taking a 'tune up' to adjust to a higher weight class, i may ask for a more padded glove so he can get some experience at the new weight class without as much risk of being crushed.
