But thats fine. Because Ortiz did it. If Floyd would have done that, people would scream for him to be DQed.
Funny how that's being ignored or written off as "heat of the moment". Floyd showed his smarts by retaliating WITHIN the rules. Floyd did a shitty thing and had this been for the "Friend Making Championship" he would have rightfully been disqualified (or gotten a demerit). It was a ****ing FIGHT though. Sportsmanship is a courtesy, not a requirement. Up until that blatant headbutt - which unlike the sucker punch was clearly illegal - Floyd extended sportsmanship. Did Floyd do a shitty thing? Yes. Was it illegal? No.
Not saying it was right. In fact, I concede that it was a shitty thing to do. It wasn't cheating, though. It was within the rules and made possible by a completely inept ref. Any ref worth his latex gloves would have sent the fighters to opposite corners while he sorted out the timekeeper. Mr. Fair but Firm (should be "old and ambiguous") decided to multitask. Floyd did not win honorably, but that's not required of him.
It was definitely unsportsmanlike behaviour from Floyd but based upon his behaviour in general it's not really surprising. And to be fair it was Ortiz who initially made it a dirty fight so he got what he deserved. Personally the ending was disappointing and I didn't like it, but it was legal and within the rules of the sport. The fight just reaffirmed what we already knew about Floyd, he's an amazing boxer without equal and he is not a very nice, likeable or morally sound person.
