You hear Mayweather always complaining saying since he left Top rank he's made a ton of money but soon as he left he fought De La hoya in a 2.4 million PPV fight and made $25 million he would of got that with Arum who's paying Pacquiao $26 million for 850k PPV fights,
When Floyd was with Top rank he was getting Paid $3 million to fight medicore oppenants like Corley, Brusseles on Regular HBO infront of half empty crowds which other fighter is getting paid that much right now on HBO non PPV fights, Im pretty sure no one.

My point of this thread was to suggest that for the period Mayweather was with Top rank he wasn't short changed considering the oppenants he was facing combined with his box office status at the time which was low he was still was paid quite handsome, no other fighter is making $3 million at the moment on normal HBO, ofcourse soon as he left Top Rank he went on to face the big cash cows of the sport thats why he took the money onto another level.

True but he wanted higher guarantees vs the likes of cotto/hatton. Plus wanted 20m vs oscar which bob said he wouldn't give him as he thought the fight wouldn't generate such high revenues.

And he made 80 million in his last fight. So ****ing what. Its business, had he stayed with Bob like Manny he'd be making ****. He took a risk, left and proved he could make a hell of a lot more. The 25m he made against DelaHoya was unheard of at the time. I'm not even sure what this thread is trying to say, its dip**** logic really.

I don't think he's losing sleep over the fact that he's not with TR.

who was the last black fighter arum paid big money to?

floyd played b side to guys when he should have been headlining.

he was fighter of the year in '98. arum didn't do all he could with floyd because floyd wasn't leonard or delahoya.

Yeah but his thing wasnt just that he could make more money w/o TR, but he would keep more money w/o TR.

Out of those $3 million paydays, he still had to give TR their cut to promote, whereas now, he pays his own salary.

The fewer links the stronger the chain. The less people you got running the show the more will be left over, it's very simple. Floyd took a risk and it paid off, big time

it's called leverage... or think they can use money as a leverage to whatever agenda they try to pursue.

The money that Mayweather made when he was with Top Rank was good money, but not as much as he should've been making. Arum is a good promoter, but he seems to only be able to excel with fighters with a strong built in fanbase(i.e Mexicans and Puerto Ricans). He doesn't seem to be so great as of lately when he has to sell the actual fighter intsead of his ethnicity.

With some fighters, the promoter doesn't have much to work with. That wasn't the case with Mayweather. Mayweather was a boxing prodigy, an olympian, has tons of personality, and talent that can rival many of the best fighters that ever lived. So why is it that Mayweather was pushing 30 and still fighting in front of sparse crowds when he was with Arum? Why was he 28 before he headlined his first ppv? All one has to do is look at how Mayweather's profile has skyrocketed since leaving Arum to know that Arum didn't promote him the right way.

Mayweather wanted the Margarito fight then the Delahoya fight when he was extending his contract. Arum wouldn't work with Oscar so Floyd left and got the fight on his own.

Seriously what would you have done?

When Mayweather was at 130-135 lbs, he wanted big fights for big money.
All Arum did was badmouth Mayweather through the press and say things like, "he's a special talent, but he does'nt attract fans." ......things of that sort.
At the time Arum had cash cow DLH and he did'nt want to work that hard to put Mayweather on the map to get him toward that goal of becoming a real PPV attraction.

The same type of relationship Arum had with Mayweather, he had as well with Juan Manuel Marquez.
Mayweather and Marquez were two special talents, but Arum did'nt dedicate his efforts on them because he had DLH above lightweight, and Morales below lightweight that he was'nt going to be bothered with paying Mayweather and Marquez the extra money to builld them up to anything better than they already were at the time.

Eventually both Mayweather and Marquez left Top Rank because of it, they had to.
