    Very good points.

People who blame Mayweather are doing so because they are blinded by hate. There are many things you mentioned that they are ignoring:

    1) Ortiz could have intentionally hurt him seriously and gotten away with it.

    2) Even if they caught him, who cares about another point deduction and even disqualification if you're sitting there with your jaw broken or concussed because of a launching headbutt.

    3) Ortiz had done this multiple times in the fight, and Mayweather was prbably pissed by then, as anyone would be.

    4) The punches were well within the rules, and anyone arguing that they weren't is not being objective.

To make a objective assesment of a fight you have to put aside any 'hate' or prejudice. The ideal scenario for Floyd, would have been to take it on the chin, touch gloves and then proceed to make Victor miss all night and give him a legit beat down. This would have won him some fans, although people do seem to struggle to give him a 'fair shake'.

What Floyd did was not popular, i was rooting for Ortiz to get up so i could get some more action for my PPV money, but at the same time Mayweather is a professional athlete and has to look after himself.

Was it a cheap shot, maybe. But if i had just fouled someone and they came at me with the obvious anger that Floyd was displaying, would i drop my gloves and hug?? c'mon, schoolboy error.

I dont think a re-match is needed, Ortiz got his shot too early in his career, coupled with a awkward hard to hit fighter like Mayweather was always going to end in disaster.

Mayweather will take on Khan next, not Pacman.

Unsure where Ortiz will go from here, a tuneup bout early 2012, but after that...?

Time was in. he threw a punch. Don't really see the need to discuss the matter any further.

If pot shot and run wins the fight what is wrong with that? The art of boxing is to hit without being hit? Either way Mayweather was happy at times to throw some combination punches in this fight.

I think Ortiz would do better against Pac, he would still loose IMO but the styles would suit better.

i never said there was anything wrong with it, but the claim of.."he will gain fans" is wrong...that is what i was pointing out

I guess for Mayweather to gain fans is always going to be tough, but my point is - surely winning the fight via less controversial means would be more popular??

Mayweather would never get credit no matter what. Thats why he really doesn't give a **** what people think he does what he wants. He's knows people are always going to criticize him and make excuses and never giv him credit for his skills.

    Another reasonable post.

Thing is Jack Dempsey did the same to Jack Sharkey.

During the 7th round, Dempsey hit Sharkey with a low blow. On his own accord, Sharkey dropped his hands and complained to the referee about Dempsey hitting him low. However, the ref had not stopped the fight, so Dempsey threw a left hook, which landed squarely on the point of Sharkey’s chin, knocking him cold before he hit the canvas. After the fight, when questioned about his actions, Dempsey said, “WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO?, SEND HIM AN ENGRAVED INVITATION TO FIGHT? THIS IS BOXING. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES!”

And say Ortiz drew blood from Mayweather or caused a gash in his eye? Headbutts can be fight changing.

NBA say Ortiz was beating him for 4 rounds and Mayweather was constantly using his head and Ortiz clocks him putting him down for the 10 count. People would argue very differently IMO. Very differently.

This is my point, although what Mayweather did was not moral in many peoples eyes and it ended what could have been a great fight very early, an intentional headbutt like that can change fights and possibly careers.

If a headbutt is accidental, thats fair enough, this is boxing and it will happen.
If it is accidental but caused by repeatedly leading with their head, point off.
A blatent ram with the head like Ortiz did should result in a DQ.
