Would be interesting to see how what people's gameplan would be if they were Roger on how to beat PW.
Dreams. Dreams. I honestly would be shocked if he fought Martinez, not because I think he's scared, but he typically has a certain kind of fighter he likes to fight(fighters he knows he can sell and make a ton of money).
Mayweather Ko. Williams would be figured out within 2 minutes, Floyd would not be worried of his power, I just don't see Williams lasting it out. I think he would get caught with something big at some point like Hatton and that he's going down when that happens. Floyd is one of the most intelligent boxers while Williams seems to be one of the slowest.
Why would you think that? I need help understanding this one too, please shed light. Hand speed, footwork, reflexes, or perhaps the total package; which are you referring?
If they fight at 147, and I see no reason why Floyd would agree to any other weight, Williams will most likely come in weight drained (I don't care how easy he claims he can get to 147, he's been out of the weight class for too long for that too be an easy feat). Floyd looked diesel last night. About as big as a welterweight can look. Physically imposing, bossing Mosley around the ring (Although I agree with those that said the ref wasn't strict enough with those forearms), perfectly conditioned. Everyone knows about his work ethic and conditioning, don't expect him to come in at any weight other than the one he specifically chooses to fight at. Williams is known for his high punch rate.....suicide against Floyd. The more you throw at him, the quicker he figures out what you're doing, and the quicker he puts you on your ass. I said that Floyd is one of the more intelligent boxers while Williams is one of the slowest...slowest as in he doesn't seem very cerebral. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. A few screws loose. Williams has never adjusted in any fight I've seen (To be fair, in many of his fights he hasn't had to...in others, I wondered what the hell he was doing).
I doubt Paul Williams can make 147 any longer. He's very well settled at LMW-MW. If the fight happens at 154, I'd take Paul Williams all day. 100 punches per round for Floyd to block is something he's never faced before. But don't hope on it, I doubt Floyd's trainers would allow him to enter such a fight. It's just too darn risky. And Williams isn't a draw, nor a... big marquee name.
Funny enough, I just watched HBO's Paul Williams Greatest Hits and boy does Williams get hit....a lot. Williams does have the reach and height advantage but even boxers like Walter Matthysse was getting in great shots on Williams' face. Mayweather UD.
Williams doesn't blow up in weight in between fights (ala Pavlik) so I don't personally buy into the assumption that he couldn't comfortably make weight. And in his last appearance at 147 he looked spectacular; granted it was almost 2 years ago. Do you think Floyd would be more physically imposing than was Margarito when PTP fought him? IMO, a high work rate against Floyd would increase the number of punches landed (particularly when the punches are coming from an opponent with the height and reach advantages). IMO, Paul doesn't need to execute some kind of intricate game plan to defeat Floyd. In fact, an attempt to outbox Floyd would be ill-advised. Considering Paul's physical advantages and his ability to adsorb a solid shot, a simplistic 'walk you down' style would suffice. As sharp and elusive as Floyd is, he would be unable to avoid the blizzard of punches directed at him and I can envision him getting overwhelmed. imho
At 6 4 and 147lb. PW is totally dehydrated and weak. It's just the science of the human body. Either of these fighters would KTFO PW
Mayweather's ability to avoid Williams' sloppy punches and counter with the sharp blows would win him a decision.
