I know Bazooka a couple of days ago made a similar thread like this but I really can't see how Floyd does any better against the Ricardo Mayorga that Shane Mosley fought back in 2008. Keep in mind the fight was at the 154 pound limit and on fight night Mayorga came in at 170 pounds, and in my opinion this was a fight Mayorga actually came prepared in. And Mosley still laid plenty of hurt on Mayorga. Mayweather doesn't have the power or workrate to keep a 170 pound Mayorga off of him, at the end of the day Mayweather would have a won a UD that was tougher than he would have thought.

Since that night when Mosley fought Mayorga a lot of misconceptions have been made with this fight, first off the fight wasn't close on the cards as many have said and from round 4 and onward Mosley dominated in terms of winning rounds. Mosley's struggles in the Mayorga fight have been greatly exaggerated, like I have said in the past, Mayorga came to the fight to make it ugly and succeeded in doing that, but making it ugly doesn't mean he won a lot of rounds. Mayorga succeeded in making it an ugly fight because like I have mentioned he was 170 pounds on fight night and Shane was 160 pounds on fight night, in my humble opinion little Floyd wouldn't be able to prevent a 170 pound Mayorga from making a fight with him an ugly affair like he did against Mosley.

I to have never understood these misconcepions that came with this fight. Mayorga sure as hell didnt outbox Mosley considering Mayorga landed only 10 percent of his punches, wasnt winning cause he was down on 2 cards going into the 12th and would have been down on all 3 had Mayorga got up in the 12th but he didnt because Mosley knocked out a guy who came in as a Light Heavyweight. Mayorga cried fouls about a hundred times and tried to wrestle and rabbit punch Mosley to do death theres nothing about that fight that says Mosley was in any kind of trouble. I cant fault Shane for not looking totally spectacular agianst a Light Heavyweight who tried to fight dirty for 12.

I don't read too many honest or accurate assessments about what transpired in the fight, but your post is a definite exception.

    Well said.

    Here's some bullet points

    - De La Hoya Reportedly came in around 167 lbs. in his fight against Mayweather

-De La Hoya had destroyed Mayorga in his previous fight

    - Mayweather came into that fight around 150 lbs.

    - Mayweather didn't struggle with Hoya as much as Mosley did with Mayorga

-De La Hoya, stylistically, is a tougher matchup for Mayweather than Mayorga

It would be a hell of a fight. I think it would take a guy like Mayorga to push FMJ to his limits. No real "style" and the type of tactics to maybe get FMJ out of his zone.

I think Mayweather would beat the Mayorga that faced Mosley with footwork, but the 2002-3 Mayorga? Wow. That would be something to see!

People were expecting more from Mosley, based on the Trinidad and DeHoya fights with Mayo. Mosley wasn't able to hurt Mayorga early like the other 2 which is why he didn't look good. Mayorga can be very tough if an opponent fails to hurt him, he is flawed but unorthodox, highly aggressive and very strong, just look at what he did at 147 before getting screwed against Spinks he was elite at WW.

Neither do I you court jester. I just dispute your hating BS. I critique FMJ too. Problem is you Nancies are more interested in talking about personality and interviews than actual boxing.

What kind of chick mentions another dude's name in a thread he isn't in? :blood:yep

DLH was also considerably more lethargic than Mayorga and he faded badly after round 6. Up until that point, he was actually outboxing Floyd before getting shut out over the second half.

    Irrelevant. Styles.

    And?

    Through six rounds he did.

    Strongly disagreed.

DLH was predictable and Floyd knew he would fade down the stretch as he did in every other big fight he ever had with the lone exception being the Quartey fight.

Mayorga's unorthodox rough house tactics and unusual punching angles would provide more trouble for Floyd, IMHO.

I watched a very easy fight to score.

Through 6, Oscar was winning 58-56.

He was shutout over the second half, and it was a CLEAR 116-112 win for FLoyd.

The better question is, what fight did YOU watch?
