Floyd gets held to a different standard because he's one of the best fighters of his generation. He has to do more with that talent. If all he does is beat the gatekeepers, the guys that are in their mid 30s, etc, that is not impressive. Those are the guys an A level fighter should beat. It would be shocking if he didn't. What A level fighter would not have beaten Corley? 35 year old Mitchell? Manfreddy? Gatti? Baldomir? 38 year old Mosley? The main guys that Floyd has fought that would be a threat to that level of fighter are the ones I listed. Most of his other opponents either aren't or might only pose a serious risk on their best night or when the style matchup is right.
So true. Makes me laugh when people say Floyd's proof of cherry picking is that "he's always the favourite to win!"
Good points ... keep in mind though that like it or not the only fighters that wasn't a champion when they fought him were Mitchell and Marquez (well marquez wasn't a welterweight champion) if I am not mistaken
1) Corrales , this is Mayweather's signature performance and always will be 2) Castillo 2 , after losing the first fight and getting the nod , Mayweather came back strong to beat a then P4P ranked fighter and the best LW in the world 3) De La Hoya , Outsized and outgunned but picked apart Oscar with an impressive display of timing and defence
As in where did he look best against top level opposition? 1. Corrales. 2. Marquez. 3. Mosley. The best wins as in, a mixture of dominance and quality of opposition? 1. de la Hoya. 2. Marquez. 3. Corrales.
Corrales (the favorite in this fight, best at 130 in the world at time and got completely dominated and stopped) DLH (a 154 and very motivated version of Oscar) Hernandez (best 130 in the world at the time when Floyd was just a kid, on his 2nd title run and 5th defense of this title9he had 8 defenses of his previous title that he vacated to fight DLH), only 1 loss in his career to a young DLH who was the much bigger man at LW which was Genaros only fight there, he was unbeaten at 130....Floyd dominated and retired hernandez in both senses)
