    These are the dates the fights were announced.

    02/19/2013 Guerrero, 2.5 months before fight
    05/29/2013 Canelo, 3.5 months before fight
    02/24/2014 Maidana, 2.5 months before fight
    07/10/2014 Maidana, 2 months before fight

    Don't expect any announcement for May 2nd (or whatever date) until mid-February. All of the speculation until then is non-sense.

    If you are banking on a properly promoted mega event, the card should be given as much time as humanly possible to be promoted.

    A Pac fight would NOT need any promotions whatsoever.

    You announce it a month in advanced and everyone will be mega hyped. :deal

    City press tours would not even be needed. It would blow up on any sort of social media/sportscasting centres.

    Signed or not, promotion started when Pacquiao called Floyd out after Algieri.

    Edit: The point of the thread was to explain that we should expect an announcement at February THE LATEST. If anything, the damn Guerrero and Maidana fights needed more promotion.

    This is a good point and might have something to do with Mayweather's declining PPV sales. I've been thinking in each of his last fights that it seems counterproductive to sales to announce the fights so late, so there must be some upside for Mayweather because you know he wants to maximize those dollars.

    I wonder if he does this so he has more time to train specifically for his opponents (I'm assuming he knows who he's choosing LONG before he announces it)? Maybe the late announcement gives them less time to train and/or forces them to overtrain in the last 8 weeks leading up to the fight? Wouldn't be a terrible idea :think
