:deal:deal took the words right outt of my mouth. all floyd has left to do is prove himself at welterweight. fighting and beating shane mosley and miguel cotto, the two best welterweights in the world, would be an absolutley huge accomplishment right now and would solidify mayweather as undispited welterweight champ and legitimate 5 division champ. coming up 4 divisions and dominating fighters of that calibre is enough to move him up significantly in my opinion.

the difference is that your analysis is based on what you know about the now. peas is based on the last 70 or 80 years. not to be a dick but anyone who has been here more than a few months knows that your knowledge really doesnt compare to his.

All wins over Cotto and Mosley would do is prove his willingness to fight legitimate Welterweights. It wouldn't prove anything about his ablity that we don't already know. Cotto's mediocrity (in the grand scheme of things) has been proven against guys like Clottey, so do you really think a Floyd win over him would enhance his placing among the all time greats? Floyd was always at a stylistic advantage against Shane, so beating a 40 year old version isn't going to change my opinion of him too much at all. Seeing him beat them both in impressive fashion would be satisfying, but the way he's been going about things lately I don't see that happening at all.

Either way, he won't be facing Cotto anytime soon because Pacquiao will have dealt with him by then. What does it say about the state of boxing when Floyd's biggest test is a fighter multiple weight classes smaller?

Honestly, nothing Floyd accomplishes can really change my opinion of his abilities, only his willingness to prove himself. That will increase his merit in my eyes make no mistake, but if he's already head and shoulders above the rest, how can beating any of them really up his placement? The bottom line is, he fights in such a shitty era he can't really be compared to the all time greats on anything but ability, and in that regard he doesn't quite stack up in my mind. At least beating the best around would prove he has the balls, though.

Top 30, probably. His accomplishments would still stink compared to some of the real ATGs.

I don't know. We know he has tremendous athletic ability, but has he got the ability to win big fights? He only slipped past Oscar, and lost to Castillo the first time round. Everybody has close fights, of course; but Mosley has the imposing physicality of those two at 147 as well as speed and master ring generalship. I think that the outcome of that fight would either expose Floyd as tremendously skilled but limited in ring efficiency or cement his abilities as a true pinnacle of boxing.

I think is a little late for FMJ... I think the damage is done..... Whose fault was??

The WW division is not the greates at the present and because of that it will be very difficult for Floyd to improve his status as ATG (whatever that might be) even if he fights and defeats the winner of Cotto/Pac.... or Mosley......

Cotto was defeated by Margo and that won't help Floyd at this point as he would like to...... and that is even if Cotto defeats Pac, because in reality Pac isn't a WW and also was Margarito who put an end to Cotto's 'ZERO' no Floyd......

If Pac defeats Cotto, then it would be meaninless for Floyd to fight Cotto.....and if he fights Pac and defeats him, that won't help his cause either because Pac will always be seeing as the small guy coming up.....

So who's left for Floyd ???? Mosley is the only one but he is old and that doesn't help either.....time has passed and Mosley isn't the same boxer he once was....

Unfortunatelly for Floyd the road to improve his legacy isn't there.... and that's why I think he's going to take the other road... which is the road to the bank $$$$$$$ if you know what I mean.,,,,

Anyway, I would still want to see him fight Mosley.... and Williams... why not?????

It wont change much because we all know how skilled he is, but their isn't really anyone to really challenge him. If he moved upto Middleweight or fought Williams at a catchweight and won then he'd probably shoot up.

    But we can only dream:(

hard to say where anyone ranks til there done. But it'll definitely get him closer to where he wants. At his age the time to dare and be great is now.

Mayweather is already greater than Mike Tyson or even Sal Sanchez.

I would rank him Top15 if he beats Mosley, Pac, Cotto...

THIS POST IS WHY FLOYD IS HELD TO HIRE STANDARDS THAN OTHER FIGHTERS...HE COULD FIGHT THE 2BEST IN HIS DIVISION AND HE STILL WOULDNT GET THE CREDIT HE DUE...I KNOW ITS A BIG IF BUT IMO IF HE FOUGHT COTTO AND MOSLEY AND WON THERE WOULD BE NOTHING LEFT REALLY...I MEAN 160 BUT FLOYD CAME FROM 130 AND TAKING A FIGHT AT 160 WOULD BE RIDICULOUS IF U ASK ME..I LIKE UR POST THOUGH..GOOD STUFF...I JUSS DISAGREE WITH IT!:thumbsup
