Mayweather's legacy

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by KiwiMan, Aug 27, 2017.

Did Mayweather's legacy improve or worsen last night?

  1. Improved considerably. He beat a bigger, younger, fighter and breaks Marciano's record. 50-0!

    3.1%
  2. Improved a little, as per the above.

    15.0%
  3. No change - this was basically an exhibition fight.

    58.3%
  4. Worsened a little - see below

    9.4%
  5. Worsened considerably. An 0-0 novice got to the tenth round & won several rounds vs "The Best Ever".

    14.2%

I've been critical of Mayweather throughout his career, but now that he is retired I think some respect is due. I know you are a Mayweather hater, Pacquiao lover. I am a fan of the sport and I think both boxers have had spectacular careers. I think some appreciation for one fighter doesn't diminish anything else another boxer has done.

Void's legacy ends with a win over a person who was making his boxing debut, had a record of 0-0-0...............Void lost to Castillo and Oscar, so he has, at least two losses on his record, but he always owned the judges.........referee, boxing commission which is important, that should be against the law.............it really is.........

Barring actually losing which wasn't going to happen, this fight wasn't going to damage or improve Floyd's legacy. His legacy is already secured as the greatest since Leonard, at least.

I wouldn't call it improving his legacy, but how he won probably improved how he's perceived: because he shut up the haters who have said he's a runner! and he can't punch! by coming forward all fight then knocking out a guy 15 lbs bigger than him. It was the perfect way to close his career.

The win doesn't change Mayweather's legacy.

Actually, the one future fight that will change Mayweather's legacy, is if Canelo beats GGG and finishes his career with just one L on his record.

People will say it makes no difference, but do you think people wont be mentioning in 10 years time that the only person who was capable of beating Canelo was Mayweather? Of course that will be a talking point.

There are a certain group of posters who will go into meltdown if this happens, will be funny to observe.

The Mcgreggor fight was an offer that he couldn't refuse. It was like a birds nest on the ground. If he didn't take that 300 million then he would have been stupid. Plus it was an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Actually three, money, record and atonement for the Pac fight. Say what you want but the casuals pay the bills and all they wanted to see was a fight. They got that and they are happy. Myself, don't think that the fight should be added to his boxing record or if it is, there should be an asterisk with an explanation. As for his Legacy, it was intact before the fight and by this being an enjoyable event, it only enhanced it. People will talk about the time beat an MMA fighter at the age of forty. ( all casuals ) but their kids will say, that Floyd Mayweather was a bad man and I wanna box just like him. Love him or hate him, he is an incredible legend and a top of the line ATG.

legacy in overall place in boxing history doesn't change

though with a stoppage and crowd pleasing showing he must have won back more of the general public especially after the pacquiao bomb

Yes sir you are 100% correct. If Canelo goes undefeated from now on,say into deep 30's it will evelate Floyd status even higher.
