there are plenty of better trash talkers than floyd, floyds a great fighter but sucks as a trash talker, malignaggi, mayorga, toney and even old man river talk better trash than May.
I would only rate Toney and Mayorga ahead of him. Malignaggi is just a guy who tries to copy Mayweather.
Ricky Hatton was much funnier than Mayweather in the build up to their fight and Hatton doesn't even bother with trash talk normally. They don't get bothered, because he's funny or witty. It's because he's incessant.
Nah. Floyd emulating a Ricky Hatton hook was easily the funniest part of that 24/7. Ahhhhhhh! :rofl So, its like he's picking on you?
Gosh, comparing him to Ali.. what the **** are you guys on about? Ali was on a whole different level, Mayweather can't even begin to compare.
No, it's like when a child wants sweets, you say they can't have any, but they go on and on and on, then you give in. Floyd is like a child who wants sweets.
He's somewhat like the class clown. "HEY LOOK AT ME YALL LOOK AT ME YALL!! LOOK YALL, CUSTOM MADE SUITS YALL! IM A GORILLA IM A DAWG YALL!"
He already done made his haters and his fans, and everyone is buying this fight regardless. He does not have to put on his gorilla suit and play ****** to sell this one. Hes a ****ing clown.
I ****ing hate boxers that think they have to copy wrestling in order to promote fights, and being ****s is 'good trash talking'.
Essentially yea. Unbeaten fighter, P4P#1 (at the time) against the biggest draw in boxing. If trash talking was the key, ODLH - Mayorga would have done 3 million buys.
If boxing is descending into a sport where we have to have 'heels' to sell PPV's and generate interest, then it really is dying. It will be dead very, very soon if that's the case. Who was the heel in Hagler/Hearns? Leonard/Hearns? Leonard/Hagler? Yeah, those guys characters were involved (Golden boy Leonard) - but they were their real characters, not some made up ****. Tyson was the heel sure towards the end of the career. But it was Tyson for real. Personalities count for sure. But if boxing (and Floyd) is getting to the point where you have times when you're "in character" and not, then boxing is dead. What's going to happen after the fight? All hugs and handshakes and faked "Oh, I really like him, it was just to promote the fight.." How about promoting the fight on the basis of seeing who the best welterweight in the world is?
