If that was the case, i would think they would have made this fight at 140lbs, unless they really want to get all the advantage. There are some people that stops growing, even if they get old, all they can hope to do is add muscles but it doesnt take away the fact that they dont belong in the upper divisions. Some adjusts well, either by genetics or just proper training.
This isn't 5 years ago. Today, Mayweather is a natural WW. Not a big WW, but a natural WW nevertheless. He didn't move up in weight for a given fight, no, he slowly developped into a WW. Mayweather steps into the ring at around 150lbs, and he wasn't even able to make 144lbs against JMM, that indicates he's a WW.
The average male adult will gain an extra 800grams in bone density from the age of 20-30, a fact which is not particularly significant to my argument.
I don't know which is worse, Mayweather not even trying to make 144 and suffer a few ill effects of draining himself (not that it would have changed the outcome) or Mayweather not being able to make 144 at all because he's grown into a WW frame. Either he's a true Welterweight who picked on a lightweight or a small Welterweight who simply chose not to give Marquez even the smallest of advantages by not draining himself to make weight. I choose the 2nd, I think he could have made the weight if he wanted to but chose to pay his way out of having to drain himself a bit more.
Pacquiao fought 16 times as a professional before his 18th Birthday - Yes he was light, but he wasn't a fully developed adult. As a teenager Mayweather also fought at 106lbs and 114lbs in the amateurs. They both fought the majority of their careers as fully grown adults at 130lbs - Pacquiao has the larger wrists, ankles, forearms and fists, indicating a larger stature. Live with it.
Then there is only one thing that explains your reasoning. Mayweather is actually a welterweight masquerading as a lightweight, meaning he was squeezing as much advantage as he can get, He should actually be fighting in the 147 division, yet he squeezed himself in the 130-135 division. By your stupid reasoning, fighters can not fight beyond probably 25 because by that time they surely can not weigh the same as when they were 19 or 20. Or the more stupid thing to do is that they keep on fighting at the weight that they are accustomed to, even if they already gained 20 pounds.
Huh? There are a number of reasons fighters become heavier as they age. Slowed metabolism, increased bone density, increased rate of protein degradation relative to synthesis etc. Fighters generally move up in weight as their careers pan out. That's more or less a fact. Past heavyweight champions of the World such as Jack Johnson, Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey begin their careers as welterweights or middleweights. This has very little to do with my argument or this thread though.
look at all the mayweather nuthuggery are you people not embarrassed that the long awaited comeback was against a 36 year old lightweight stylistically cherrypicked to compliment the bald headed little capitalist's style... seriously as accomplishements go this is a joke and why boxing is on its arse at the minute... if mayweather really wants to cement his legacy then how come he wont fight the people in his own weightclass??.... cue nallege with a mouthful of floyds cum to impress us all with his linguistic prowess and another long fetted tail of how the overrated one is the greatest of all time...
