Can someone please enlighten me. Over in the uk its hard to watch Mayweather fights. His ko ratio is good, but does he posses genuine power in his hands. I was also wondering how he is at closing the deal, if he hurts Hatton will he jump on him and finish the night early or does he tend to hold back. I know he has had problems with his hands so this might affect his willingness to punch hard (i.e joe calzaghe). Just wondering as his last 4 or 5 fights have gone the distance.

    Thanks in advance for comments.

To put things in perspective, think of it this way.

Have you ever seen Alfonso Gomez fight? If not, believe me, he has very little power. He put Gatti on ***** street, beat him up bad and hurt him real bad. Gatti at WW, just can't really take the shots. Mayweather hit Gatti with almost every power shot he threw....and never really stunned him. McGirt stopped the fight because of the unneccessary accumulation, but Floyd couldn't finish it :deal He has little, to no power at WW. :good

He had a decent power on the lower divisions 130 -140, however, in 147 and up its has diminished a lot.

He did brutalize Gatti though. I remember watching that fight and Gatti looked in a world of pain to me.

He also landed some good shots on DeLa Hoya late on. To say ODLH was wobbled is exagerating somewhat but he certainly reacted to them, that being at Light Middle.

It is his speed and accuracy that give his punches sufficient pop.

No I agree with all of that. He beat the **** out of Gatti. He also caught Delahoya, but like you said that was speed and accuracy, also he caught Hoya coming in. I think he might stop Hatton late, but it won't be a "1 punch" KO :good

In Mayweathers case, his power at Welter is based on speed, timing, and accuracy.True Gomez seemingly did more damage to Gatti than did Floyd, but the Arturo that Alfonso fought was diminished compared to the version that fought Mayweather.Floyd probably does back off due to hand pain, but Hatton better not figure that Floyd can't punch.Don't forget Collazo had Rick on ***** street, so the faster Floyd could certainly do damage with one of those whistling shots that Hatton won't see coming.

Was a beast at 130. "Power" had diminished, but as Corley said after their fight, his hands are so fast he puts you down with punches you never saw coming. When he has you hurt he's got the accuracy to force a stoppage or pickup a knockdown.

He would have put Zab down with a body shot if not for the low blows Zab threw. He doesnt pack crushing power but cant be under estimated ie Kessler did Calzaghe.

If Floyd has no power then why didn't ODH just walk through his punches? These guys say Gatti was never stunned...hell he didn't even realize where he was after 6 short rounds...

Gatti was reeling all over the ring. He was not only stunned he was about to be a ****ing tragedy.
