There aren't many A-level guys out there in this era around the necessary weight class. Post-Mosley and Pre-Margarito Cotto I would have put at A-level, though not of the A-level quality of say, prime DLH, Mosley, or Trinidad. Martinez from 2009-2012 the same. Pacquiao from 2008-2010 and obviously Floyd as you say. Now, I would say it's only Floyd, as he's been able to wait out his bigger threats until they've faded(and yet he still won't fight them due to the risk factor). Floyd is afraid of even the faded Martinez because Martinez presents Floyd some serious issues from a style perspective. Martinez not only has the size/length, is a southpaw, and has good counterpunching skills, he also has quick hands and feet. In most of his recent matchups, Floyd can simply outbox his opponent and has a big speed advantage. He might actually have to take chances to get inside against Martinez just to land shots. And the weight hate on Floyd is because not only did he not make the weight completely on purpose, he lied about it as a selling point for his fight against Marquez. Marquez probably would have taken the fight at 147 anyway, but Floyd lied both to him and the fans, gaining an advantage for himself which he likely didn't even need. Just more of the same with the catchweight hypocrisy against Canelo and the gloves controversy with Maidana.
I was just wondering why a guy gets countless threads about nit fighting people that don't exist.. Fighting B level opponents when that's all that's left.. So every fight he has and win, it's a cherry picked B level opponent that will tarnish his legacy.. He shouldn't have come back... The whole Martinez issue is also weird to me.. Floyd is bashed for fighting past prime fighters but people want him to fight a past prime mw.. They say he'll come down to 154, but that will also tarnish the win if he succeeds.. Floyd is a ww ducking countless mw fighters.. GGG is green and hasn't beat anyone if Canelo was green and didn't beat anyone.. Speaking of, Canelo dropped 2 pounds and called a 'zombie' but people say Martinez and GGG can drop 6 and be ok? I'm struggling to understand...
Floyd isn't tarnishing his legacy. He's just not improving it in any significant way, and even fights against faded versions of Pacquiao and Martinez would be better than options such as Maidana and Khan. Both Pacquiao and Martinez are still dangerous and present problems that Floyd hasn't shown he can deal with yet. I'd favor Floyd clearly in both matchups now, but there is at least a little bit of suspense as to the outcome. As to the weight, they probably wouldn't be ok, there's no way to know until we see how they look in the ring. Ideally, Floyd would fight them at their best weight(as he stated he would always do against Cotto, then disproved against Canelo), and try to win a title in another weight class, but if they're willing to come down as advertised, I'd take that too. Floyd wouldn't get as much credit, but again, at least he'll have made the fights. And if he loses, at least he tried, and he has the built-in too big excuse. But the fact that Floyd won't even try is what is so disappointing.
idiot. pedjr said in the past he is gonna fight the winner of williams-martinez and people are following him up on that statement. martinez wasnt old 5-6-7 yrs ago. so? and pedjr drained a nobody to a corpse, that's not the work of an atg.:good
One thing I don't understand is how people rated some of these fighters. Margarito is considered A-level after beating Cotto but not Mosley for beating Margarito, someone said guys like Casa and Frietas were the real champs and A-level yet Castillo who beat both is not. As far as I know its only 6/8 guys in history who have won in 5 or more divisions so saying your not trying because you don't go to a sixth is dumb and unlike guys like Hoya who came into the ring at 160 at WW or Pacquiao who came into the ring at 147 at FW/SFW Mayweather has never came in more than 3/4 lbs past his weigh in weight. I see no point in Mayweather-Martinez at 154 I'd like that match closer to MW where it has some significance, the Pacquiao thing should have been happened but the way I see it Mayweather at first told the guy you can have your choice of ring, gloves, top billing, enter as champ, weight penalty, 50/50 split and everything else Pacquiao wanted and Pacquiao still said no fight what more can you really do.
Maybe I shouldn't have used the word tarnish.. You're right.. These fights are just doing nothing fit his legacy.. The whole Pac thing has been talked about to death so I don't want to get into that.. Everyone involved in it is at fault.. It's just popular to blame Mayweather.. It's crazy that a person who walks around at 150 at age 37 can only improve his legacy by fighting at a weight you have never came close to being in your lifetime.. Everyone knows he can never make that weight but say he should try anyway.. I'd he do good you need a mw to come take care of him? If he actually beat Martinez at 160, then he would have to fight guys from 140-160.. Sounds stupid to me.. I think people should stop trying to find fighters that can beat Mayweather because it's kinda getting out of hand..( B Hop and Andre Ward) People want Floyd to lose over their entertainment.. I just want to see good fights not a guy lose because all his advantages was taken from him not because he was a better fighter, but because he was a bigger man...
A younger Mosley. This will go back and forth on who's fault it is. Hatton at 140. Hatton campained at 147 and arguanly lost to Collazo, looked like a monster at 140. Floyd had no obligation to drop back down to 140 though so this was fair. Tsyzu. Can't remember it too well, I think this was a small window. Tsyzu was inactive for a period, and after Floyd fought Gatti, Oscar soon became available and Hatton beat Tsyzu. There was a small window perhaps when Floyd opted for Shamba Mitchell instead. Margarito. Clear duck IMO. Didn't need that kind of man in his life nomasaiyan. Paul Williams. Who didn't duck this man? Guy was forced to JMW, no top WW wanted to touch that unless your name is Margarito. Pac. This has hurt his legacy so much. The fans found a dream fight, a rival, another ppv superstar and a legitimate ATG. How could it not happen? Roadblocks and constant moving of goal posts.
the problem is pedjr has **** legacy for a supposed to be atg. no atg accomplisment to speak of. best win was against trex carralez.:rofl not improving a **** legacy is the same as tarnishing a good legacy. pedjr is just never that good. plain and simple.:hi:
Being tied for most Lineal Titles all time and having the most champions beaten in boxing history seem like two ATG accomplishments
oh i know...its kind of sad.....theres always a row of 3 guys or so that everyone says hes ducking or he should fight to prove something it was always margarito...paul williams....someone else now its like "he needs to prove something to us....he needs to fight sergio or ggg"....and on the other hand these same guy wanna see andre ward and GGG fight ....at 168...yet floyd is supposed to fight GGG or else hes a ***** who doesnt "take chances".... same guys were saying "the 2lbs didnt bother cotto...he even said so himself"...and defended that staunchly....yet just because floyd said he wouldnt do it....all of the sudden once he does it that makes 2lbs matter
i think that still angers me slightly to listen to people talk about "draining" canelo yes i realize floyd said he wouldnt do stuff like that but when manny did it to cotto everyone claimed it didnt matter...had no effect...and that cotto himself said it didnt bother him...... but then when floyd does it all of the sudden its a "drain" and its somehow damning to the other fighter....yet cotto stopped fighting at 147 after the pac fight....and canelo is still at 154..... just because floyd said he wouldnt do something....doesnt make it an actual "drain" or some huge advantage....if cotto wasnt a drain...then canelo isnt....at least canelo is still in the same division....cotto never saw 147 again imo its worse to say something is ok and then pick apart someone else for doing it...than it is to say you wont do something and then do it(especially if youve heard it was more than ok...and not a big deal from so many others).
i thought the belts dont meant **** these days. ah, *****logic i get it. idiot. if he is accused of cherry pickign, beating those cherrypicked champions means ****. so he has done a me too accomplishment. great. against who? ah nvm.:rofl:hi: pedjr = **** legacy. good salesman though. i give him credit where credit is due.:deal btw, do you agree trex carralez was his best win? funny but, was he?
