I was thinking the other night about all of the fighters who are around at the moment and I was thinking that if Mayweather had to fight these guys in this order would he gain the respect from the fans who think he has not yet proved his true greatness.

I have made 1 or 2 points in brackets

    Marquez - 143lbs (Advantage Mayweather)
    Pacquiao - 143lbs (Advantage Mayweather)

    Mosley - 147lbs (Evenly Matched)
    Cotto - 147lbs (Evenly Matched)

    Williams - 154lbs (Advantage Williams)

If Mayweather took this route providing all of the above kept winning records would he still gain the true respect and recognition that he craves.

I chucked in Paul Williams at 154lbs because for Mayweather to prove himself in my own eyes that would mean putting himself against the odds in terms of weight and other disadvantages style wise just to see how good he really is because in my opinion Williams outpoints him everytime unless Mayweather knocks him out or pulls a Carlos Quintana performance on him which is highly unlikely.

(People say Mayweather is not naturally a welter, well this should be irrelevant if you have the talent he has, if he was as good as he believes and says he is then why should that matter to him or any of you fan boys)

    Sensible thoughts anyone?

I like it. I dont think theres an advantge for Mayweather fighting Pacquiao at 143. I dont care what weight that fight is at its the toughest fight out there for him. I think if he beats the 2 best boxers in the world then fights the WW champ then nobody should say nothing, but all BS aside, nobody should say nothing now. I mean he was champ since 1998, I know half the PPL on here havent even been watching boxing since 1998. so being champ for 11 years is just crazy.

In all serious though, dont matter who he fights the damn haters will say hes got to fight somebody else. its the truth and everybody knows it. Mayweather could go 50-0 and he needs to fight somebody else. PPL say hes undefated because he hasnt fought anybody but hes just that good. Is anybody really gonna say JMM is a nobody?? Pacquiao nobody?? Hopefully the WW division is cleared up after he fights JMM and Pacquiao, but I got a feeling Clottey jacks this up. great post though, I like it

No it wouldn't be because Mayweather is not going to come foward like Margo. Big difference, Mosley would have to be the aggressor, which would play into favor for Mayweather with his great counter ability.

I really don't give a toss about Mayweather. He is fighting a guy whos fighting weight is at 130lbs!
Marquez only move to 135lbs to hunt for his rematch with Pacquiao.

Mayweather has 3-4 good fights at 147lbs. Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito(once hes aloud to fight again) and maybe Paul Williams if he wants to come back down from middleweight.

But no he wants a 'tune-up fight' against Marquez at 143lbs catch weight(which nealy didn't happen because Mayweather didn't want to fight below 147lbs!)

I see Mayweather running and counterpunching Marquez allnight, maybe mid to late TKO or wide UD. Then after he'll declare himself No1 P4P in the world because he just beat No2 P4P in the world.
Then the Pacquiao fight with happen, i see it being a lot tougher fight, but he'll run and counterpunch to close points win.

Then he'll retire again still naming himself as the best fighter thats ever lived without fighting any of the best fighters in HIS weight class.

Well thats my rant over, just what I think might happen.
    I pray for Pacman!! lol

    Flame away nuthuggers lol

Mosley Cotto and Williams would be a good start.

He's got some decent names on his resume it just lacks consistency.

The welterweight division was the hotbed for the last 2-3 years. He had a genuine chance to push himself to the next level but just watched the ship sail by saying there wasn't enough money for these fights.

Many guys spend a whole career waiting for a big name worthy opponent come up so they can be remembered in history for beating and competing with gifted guys.

He passed on 3-4 of those.

Mayweather will not be at an advantage if he fights Pacquiao at 143. Pacquiao is strongest at 140, by Freddie Roach's admission, so when he gets systematically broken down by Mayweather, there should be no excuses.

Thank god I don't have sigs on.

    You think thats funny?

Cotto would be ass raped by Mayweather. Mosley would be deemed too old.

Beating Pacquaio is the best thing for Mayweather right now.
