Many criticize Floyd fighting Hatton at 147 but prior to the fight Hatton weighed 170 +. He dropped a lot of weight to get down to welterweight.
Floyd beat the nr two guy in the division and then the nr one guy. Later he beat Mosley who was seen as the nr 1 WW.

Its always easy to say that someone didn't fight a guy and that they should have. Truth of the matter is its always easiest to say it after the fact.

Truth of the matter is that Money Mayweather picked and chose who he wanted to fight based on the following criteria: how much MONEY he was gonna make and who he had the BEST CHANCE of defeating. This criteria was MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.

Truth of the matter is that Money Mayweather has been criticized for this modus operandi for years.

The REAL truth of the matter is that its always easiest for one without knowledge of history to say "It's always easy to say that someone didn't fight a guy...after the fact."

I give him credit for Beating Mosley who was the Welterweight King.

    But thats about it.

But overrall his reign at 147 has been very disappointing

If he beats Pac people will forgive the fact he faced 3 non-welters in his 6 fights (when he could easily have fought Cotto or Margo), and only 1 welter in the past 4 years.

It's good just not great. Not fighting Marg or Cotto has and will always be the biggest thing he is remembered for at the weight, now it looks as though Pac will join them. Wins over Mosley and Hatton are very solid wins at 147, they just don't put him in the elite category for the weight.

it's his career, he fights for money, not for belts or to prove who's the best.

It is solid. Was the lineal champ at the weight. Beat the number 2nd or 3rd ranked welter in Judah. Beat the champion of the weight class in Baldomir. Came back and beat Shane Mosley who was ranked number 1 when they fought.

Probably the most reasonable post on the thread, that I can see, although Floyd has earned a championship since he arrived in this division.

I'll give him a bit more credit than most for fighting Baldomir, because, like it or not, he was the lineal champ at the weight when met. Judah was still a legit contender at the very least, so that's not a bad win either. Combined with Moseley and Hatton, it's not that terrible a resume for the weight....It's just one that contains a few glaring omissions, which you've already noted.

    But...

If Mayweather does fight Pac, and say someone like Berto, Cotto, and/or Marg going forward, and if he continues to remain undefeated, then his current 147 QV serves as a pretty good base to have built upon.

    We'll see how it goes.

The reason he gets so much hate is because everyone had such HIGH expectations. He had all the tools and knowledge to beat any of these guys and to be a heavy favorite. The thing is win or lose, there was probably a guy who brought the best out of Mayweather, and a performance that could have set him apart..

If he does come back, beat Pac, and say Berto wins tonight and beats him... well yea thats another story that could very well happen.

    topic was

    WELTERWEIGHT RESUME

Sharmba Mitchell- # of welterweights fights 1
Ricky Hatton- # of welterweights fights 1
Juan Manuel Marquez- # of welterweights fights 0
Zab- a proven welterweight but just lost to the number 10 ranked welter in previous fight. Zabs reward for losing? a fight with MONEY Mayweather
Carlos Baldomir- at the time cotto and margarito were begging for fights, as was HBO...he chose baldomir.
spin that welterweight resume if you can
Sugar Shane- 39 years old, inactive for 17 months after his destruction of margarito

Him not fighting either of them has to be looked at. Floyd was talking about taking a break before the Baldomir fight.

Which at that point Margarito's best win was Cintron or Lewis.

Margarito was also offered the fight to replace Judah but claimed short notice having just fought Gomez month and half prior and didn't take it.

Margarito then complained about people ducking him despite the obvious of dropping the title he held and becoming a mando.

Then he fights Williams while Mayweather choose to go after the lineal title.

Loses to Williams which immediately knocks him out of the picture, and then we know Mayweather badly wanted the DLH fight and took it.

Cotto, had two fights at 147 before Mayweather had fought DLH. Cotto was never legit in the picture either.

Although I do wish he would of fought Cotto as one last fight before leaving, or fighting him after Clottey as his comeback opponent.

Margarito, is scum. He's shown he's nothing without his cheating pads.
