Thats because he was fighting Bernard Hopkins. Buddy is a great trainer but he`s not a magician. If Hopkins and Tarver fought a thousand times the result would always be the same no matter who was in Tarvers corner.
Lets be real "what" exactly was Gatti supposed to do? Let me guess your a trainer of champions right? Would you care to explaint o the board "how" Gatti was to beat PBF?
I think it had more to do with all the weight Tarver had to cut, 220 to 175. That's probably more on Tarver than Buddy, but as his trainer he should've been on him about not ballooning up that much. I mean how big do you need to get to look like a heavyweight vs the 5'8" Stallone?
Yeah i think you can excuse Buddy for that fight as well. Not only was Tarver fighting Hopkins but he also had to lose a lot of weight for the fight. Jones Jr and Chris Byrd have shown us the deterimental effects of doing that. Tarver didn't stand a chance.
Stop hating on McGirt....the man revived Gatti's career and Tarver would never have beaten Jones without him. You guys are f'n ridiculous on here sometimes. Malignaggi would never have beaten Hatton no matter who was training him....same with Gatti vs Mayweather....and do y'all really think Rahman had a chance to beat Vladimor at this stage in his f'n career? Y'all mother****ers need to get a f'n life on ESB sometimes.
He's a very good trainer (third best after Steward and Mayweather) and motivates the fighter to do their best! Rahman didn't have a chance against Klitschko , and I don't think anything could change that!
Tarver was talking ****. There was no way he was 220lbs. For that film he still looked the same way he did at 175lbs. 45lbs is quite noticeable. I didnt see anything on Tarvers build in Rocky 5 that made me think that guy had to loose that much weight. Either way its immaterial. If Tarver couldnt make the weight he should have said so. Bottom line is thats not Buddys fault. The guy isnt Paul Daniels.
Well first of all, he wasn't going to beat him anyway. He DEFINETELY wasn't going to pull of a miracle win by boxing with a master boxer though.. :bbb His only chance to get something done was to at least try and take PBF out of his game and not fight his fight.. so try and brawl with the boxer- rough him up and muscle him around in an ugly fight - don't box with the boxing master though, because there's ZERO chance of winning that fight - especially someone as slow as Gatti whose punches could be seen coming a mile away. :verysad
He more often than not is in the corner of the underdog. Name the last time a McGirt fighter lost who was the favorite??
If Gatti would have done what he usually did throughout his career with his face first defence he would have been knocked out even quicker. Gatti didnt even see the punches coming. The guy got hit with 3 successive straight right hands in that fight and didnt even know where the punches were coming from.
I don't know if tarver was 220 for the Rocky film but i do remember reading somewhere that he was of heavyweight weight (so he could have been 201 lbs). Stallone wanted everything to be as realistic as possible for this film so he insisted on whoever played the Mason Dixon role to be over 200 lbs. This insistence on realism was why they used real boxing promoters, ring announers, etc for the film.
Tarver ran up his mouth saying he was 220 or so lbs. The guy is a former crack head and talks more than Jenna Jameson has taken dick to her face. He`s word dont mean ****. Couple this with the fact that in that film he clearly did not look like he was even close to 220. Matters not anyway as weight aside Hopkins will always tap that ass.
