Pimp C: "Cotto fights just like Hatton except he's slower. PBF by KO1."

Unbeatable Floyd: "I've only seen 2 fights in my life. One of them was PBF against Hatton, and he fights exactly like Cotto!"

    Gonzo: "Duhhhhhh."

Eze: "Hey guys, I gotta a new picture of Floyd that I put in my wallet in front of my drivers license with his shirt off.......I mean.......Cotto is garbage. Floyd UD."

What seperates Hatton from Cotto? Quite a bit, but the most important thing that seperates the two is the jab.

Unless ya'll were blind, (Floyd lovers), Cotto landed the jab against Mosley, arguably one of the best fighters of this generation, more than any other punch thrown.

Moreover, it was thrown with great timing and accuracy, and he often used it as a power shot.

Hatton on the otherhand, while initially taking angles, still led without throwing a jab for the majority of the fight. In fact Hatton's arsenal was quite limited as he threw a lot of left hooks and then went in for the clinch.

Cotto operates with room. He takes advantage of distance and opens up when he's close instead of going straight for the clinch. I know he had several clinches with Mosley, but you could argue that Mosley is more dangerous offensively from the inside than Floyd is.

Floyd is great defensively on the inside by giving his opponent very little room to operate and covering up excellently, but he's at his best at mid range where he can deploy his laser right hand.

Cotto negates this somewhat by coming in with the jab, and with his head down, and gloves up, which is something that Hatton neglected to do and ultimately cost him the fight.

So for ya'll that are like Cotto is the same as Hatton, bla bla bla, you need to learn more about how important it is to throw the jab, regardless of your stature.

*I just put that in the title to make people read this ****.

I can't imagine anyone seriously thinking Cotto and Hatton have the same style.

    Cotto has the jab.

    Hatton had the foot speed.

    Cotto applies technical pressure.

Hatton applies a more chaotic pressure.

Cotto doesn't have a good chin.

Hatton had only been knocked down once before.

You can find pros and cons for any fighter.

There is no evidence at 147 that suggests Cotto has a worse chin than Hatton at the weight, nor evidence suggesting Cotto's chin is not good.

In his first fight at welterweight, Hatton was rocked and basically out on his feet against the relatively light punching Luis Collazo. In his second fight, he was rocked several times and eventually knocked out by Mayweather - who is extremely accurate, but not a big welterweight puncher. Cotto, on the other hand, was stunned by Judah 2 or 3 times, but no where near as hurt as Hatton was against Collazo. And Judah is a much harder puncher than Collazo based on his stoppage victories against Cosme Rivera and Cory Spinks. Judah hits harder than Mayweather too. Cotto was able to stand toe to toe with Mosley for 9 rounds and took his shots fine. I'd like to see Hatton stand toe to toe with Mosley; he would be destroyed. Quintana is even a harder puncher than Collazo and he never had Cotto slightly hurt.

At 147, Cotto's chin is much better than Hatton's. The roles are reversed at 140, but that is unnecessary to bring up considering Hatton fought Mayweather at 147 and Cotto would be fighting Floyd at 147 as well.

Cotto definitely has a better jab than Hatton, that is not even a question.

That being said: it's a lot easier said than done to find Mayweather with a punch, any punch. If Oscar was taller, had a 1" reach advantage and could only land 16% of his jabs... I still fail to see how a shorter man, with a 5" reach DISadvantage will connect at a higher and more effective rate. Obviously, every boxer is different, but Oscar is no slouch and was only able to find the target 16% of the time. (He threw 246 jabs in that fight or 20/round average) This was also in a smaller ring and at 154 pounds where Floyd has extra weight and is probably a bit slower, which is important to note.

I like Cotto's jab, but Mayweather is a different animal. He'll punch you off that jab with his accurate straight right hands or use that quick left hook of his. I see him do it every fight.

So out of curiosity: What makes you think Cotto will be effective with his jab against Mayweather? Just a gut feeling or??

I disagree. I find Floyd more effective on the inside than Mosely. Cotto held a wide open gap in the gaurd for uppercuts and leans forward too much and Mosely didn't throw more than a few the whole fight. That gap was the only thing that kept Zab in the fight. When Cotto baited Mosely to the ropes for counters, Floyd accurate punching would have made him pay. Floyd is a pocket fighter, most of his work is on the inside.

I love Cotto, but Floyd would still be rightly the favorite. I could see Cotto pulling it out if he could get to Mayweather frequently enough to hurt him...but it seems your Mayweather hate biases your opinions on his fights. Thoughful analysis, though slightly biased and ignorant of Floyd's assets.

Do you think a chin changes so much with just a variation of 7 pounds? (5 in the case of Hatton when he fought Mayweather).

Cotto is better but slower in movement with getting in position. But his jab counters that weakness. So it is fair to say Cotto is just plain better then Hatton. Who did not know that. To end this bull**** from the Floyd haters and the quote "Joy boys" Cotto is a legit threat to Floyd. That is no give me win for Floyd. No, Cotto does not kick his ass. No, its not a definite win for Cotto. To end the bull**** from both sides. Cotto is the only one deserved of a shot right now. The fight should happen. Yes, Floyd fighting Oscar is a complete money grubbing assholelish move that should never be forgiven. There............................
