Yes, weight draining severly effects an individual's ability to take a punch.

I tried weight draining to get myself down to lightweight as an amateur. I missed it by a pound and wasn't allowed to sweat it off. Had to fight as a welterweight against a legit/strong welterweight and it was the only time I was stopped in 45 fights. I felt very weak and my legs really weren't there.

And the evidence points to Cotto's chin being much more solid at 147 seeing how he's been hit by hard punchers and never hurt to the extent he was at 140 against Torres or Corley.

And with Hatton, he has shown a good chin at 140, taking shots from Tszyu among others. But in his only two fights at 147, he has been caught flush and hurt badly. I'd say that 5 pounds plus the larger opponents he's fighting make a big difference in his punch resistance.

    Blah blah blah ....

what you forgot to mention is that mosely has very little head movement and tend to have a habbit of waling into right hand and is easy to catch with the Jab .

Mosely has relied more on his strength , speed , and his ability to take punch to wear down opponents , with sheep power punch volume .

what was evident in the cotto vs mosely fight is that , Cotto could not beat Shane at his game of high power punch out put and was force to box and move or get worn down and possibly stopped or lose on points.

Floyd on the other hand does not rely on sheer strength , or power punching volume or his ability take and give to wear down other fighters.

he relies on making you miss and landing accurate punches through out the fight , using his opponent strength against them nothing new but he is DAME ****ING GOOD AT IT..

Floyd is very good at bending at the waist paring and circling and countering to avoid the jab , Bad thing for his opponent is that he applies all of them at once as a way to shut there jab down and keep his opponents guessing , and let not for get Floyd has dame good power Jab himself , that he uses to set up his laser right hand .

now with that said can cotto use against floyd with good effectiveness yes maybe but he will have to use better game plan then he did against Shane, because one thing is for certain , floyd head movement , countering , and over all D is at least 1 or 2 levels above Shane's and cotto jab won't find floyd head as easy as it did shane's ..

Because the shorter man often uses the jab as a way to get inside so they can deliver their powershot when inside, IE uppercuts and hooks, and this is especially true when they fight like Cotto and Hatton for that matter.

Nah, that's the the thing though, I know Floyd is good, I just don't want people easily dismissing Cotto as a viable challenge.

Cotto seems to get hurt/wobbled by shots he does not see coming Mayweather is very fast and will be landing shots that cotto will not see coming he is just to open defensivly.
Cotto would get slowly dismantled Floyd is just to accurate and Cotto is too slow in every aspect.

Anybody who dismisses Cotto as a viable challenge is an idiot.

That being said, I think Floyd would be at least a 2:1 favorite and would win the match, possibly even by late-stoppage. It would be competitive for the first 5-6, but I think after that Floyd would pull away as usual. I do believe Cotto will take a lot of punishment to get inside on Mayweather. Too much speed for Cotto and I don't believe Mosley is a good comparison to Floyd in speed or movement. Speed kills. :deal:bbb

Honestly though, I just wish they would fight already.

I thought that we were going to talk about the jab ???
    Most important punch in boxing.
    101 ways to use it.
--- double jabs, triple jabs, finish with a jab, jab your way in and out,
--- To keep your opponent off balance, not letting him get set.
--- Sets up other punches (takes his mind off the big stuff)
    --- Scores points. etc.
Bottom line is that if you cant hit your opponent with your jab, then you are not going to hit him with anything else (or have a very hard time.
