I remember this fight being a good stoppage but I revisited it because many on ESB called it a bad call. Watching it again, Lewis very very shaken and may have gotten hurt.

Do you think it was a good stop or bad?

By the way do you see Manny Stewart in McCall's corner

When he got up his legs were shakey, i think it was his leading towards the ref that called for the stoppage, i think by the 10 count he looked sturdy enough to continue.

He was up and reading to fight in 10 so the refs only reasoning could be to protect the safety of Lewis, which i dont think was needed.

He looked pretty damn shaken, but maybe it was a tad premature. Then again, the ref got a look into Lewis' eyes that we don't have, that could have been a deciding factor.

I was thinking the same. He'd have probably been allowed to continue had it not been for him leaning forward into the ref.

In the ref's position, I'd have probably done the same. He doesn't have the benefit of the different camera angles, from his angle he saw a fighter go down hard, get up on shaky legs, then lean/stagger into him as he was asking the fighter if he's ok.

I'm OK with it either way, I personally don't believe the ref could have got this one wrong. I'm happy with the stoppage.

I think it's worth saying, though, that most of the men Lewis is compared to would have been allowed to continue in their own eras.

I think almost any other heavyweight with a belt would have been allowed to continue.

It probably didnt help that the opposition was one of Kings boys.

Premature stoppage, when the count got to 9, Lennox had recovered fully. :-(

It resulted in the scheduled Lewis-Bowe fight of late '94 being cancelled forever, a fight which could've been a great battle to be remembered for all time.

It was also the reason Lewis only faught once more in Britain ever again.

He was officially counted out in 6 seconds.

Manny trained Mccall to land that short right when Lennox threw a punch

    McCall was a terrible finisher.

He couldn't stop a gassed Bruno, why would he stop a freshly recovered & equally determined (as Bruno was) Lewis? :huh

I'm consdering switching my opinion from bad stoppage to ok stoppage.
Lewis is hurt, but he looks like he's going to have his wits back and his legs back by the time McCall gets to him when the fight would have resumed. The question is when should the ref stop a fight?

Very bad call... The ref should've given the wobbly but upright Lewis every chance to hang onto his crown.... Lewis was indeed hurt, but also deprived the chance to keep his belt in 1994....

    It was a good stoppage.
Lewis was all over the place. His legs were like spaghetti. There was no point where Lewis looked even slightly steady on his legs, he was falling in to the referee.

The referee actually did him a favour if he counted to "9". The mandatory count stops at "8" doesn't it ?

Many referees want to see the man standing still and then they ask him to take a step forward. Lewis was miles away from being in that sort of condition.

That little referee had 235 pounds of man falling on top of him. What's he supposed to do ?
If Lewis was okay he would have stood still for even a second. He was ****ed up.

Lennox's legs had gone and were shaky but fighters legs do go in fights when they haven't been down and refs don't usually stop because of that. I think Lennox was 50-50 in whether he would have made it out of the round. It's not easy being a referee though and trying to protect the fighters

Lennox himself made the mistake of getting up a bit too quickly, if he took a knee and got up at 8-9 he would have probably have been ok. Like Judah-Tyszu
