Wach was originally scheduled to face former world champion Oliver McCall in Saturdays main event, but the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation was unable to license McCall, 46, so Gavern will answer the call on short notice, a trend hes grown accustomed to in his professional career.
sounds pretty bad if u can't get a license from that 'governing body', but probably means mccall wouldn't agree to some 'fee' or something
How is that even possible. The guy has great reflexes still, is in excellent shape, and sounds as lucid as any younger HW. Any reasoning for their denial. Surely it's not over a stinking $135 sanctioning fee.
they wait 2 days before this fight to figure this one small ****ing detail out?? thats why boxing is a joke...the fight shouldnt even be signed or promoted until this detail of having a damn license is made known...what a frigging JOKE
McCall is back on the pipe most likely. People forget that for the last 30 years this dude has never been clean for more than a year.
Agreed. Boxing is bad enough with the last minute injury pull outs, but at least thats understandable. These last minute unpleasant bureaucratic surprises only happen in boxing. MMA does not have these issues.
Nah, my post wasn't at all in reaction to yours (they were a minute apart! :yep). Gavern really is just a huge step down from McCall here. Yeah, he's a decent enough late-notice C-class guy...but he isn't going to hurt Wach nor does he have the tools to comprehensively outbox him...and it's probably safe to say he won't be getting the nod in any close nip-and-tuck affair against the unbeaten centerpiece of the whole evening's promotion. Too small and too little power to test Wach's chin, which McCall would have been able to do...Wach is no defensive genius. Not enough skill to get past the size and reach and score enough wasp-stings to earn a points victory. Gavern may be better than your average journeyman but he's no Sultan Ibragimov. He has got the recent stoppage win over Ding which looks impressive on paper (and even more since Ding got a win over vaunted JC Gomez) - but in truth Ding is shot to **** and was little more than a declawed blown-up cruiserweight during his run at heavy...and he IMO got a really badly undeserved gift against a one-handed Gomez. Tough as he is, I'm not sure he'll even make it the distance here. Taking a few clubbing rights from a shot and bloated Ding (and I stress a few, since Gavern mostly kept him behind the jab and almost toyed with him before busting his face like a melon for the cuts TKO win) and drudging on through six and a half KD-filled rounds before succumbing to Boytsov don't mean he can take many axe-swings from the big Polish oaf.
Too bad McCall is out, he's a tough guy who would have given Wach a tough night. Gavern is an ok fighter and a decent enough replacement especially on such short notice but he's a step down from McCall. Wach by ko.
I didn't forget. Pipe - hitting is always a possibility w/ Ollie and might explain why he cannot come up with $130 fee. Seriously tho who knows? think he's alleged a couple to a few years of relative sobriety and at 46 or whatever was hoping that **** was behind him
Don't forget, I was with ya on the Ding/Gomez affair, and while Gomez may or may not have been injured, Ding did more in MOST fans eyes. Even though JC took the majority of the punches off the arms.:deal But yeah, JG is way outta his league with Wach, and will likely be decimated in much more dominating fashion than Boystov was seemingly easily able to do.:deal So please tell me Ollie aint hitting the pipe again, and this is just some medical issue he's struggling with.:-(
He lost to Nevan Pajkic.........that is purdy bad. But yeah I guess Gavern is at most an inconsistent fighter with an ability to surprise more favored opponents. However, if Wach can`t dominate him, he has no business in the top 10. I suspect Gavern will start wild, trying to get inside and make it messy. Wach will try to keep the distance and than go for the kill with that hammer of a punch he has. There`s no question McCall would have been tougher test and a more interesting scenario to see where Wach`s power, conditioning and overall class are at. Gavern just doesn`t provide any measuring stick for those things, but is still a pretty good last minute fill in.
Wach can come from halfway around the world, has his visa in order, has his license in order and bush league oliver mccall and his camp somehow cant get him licensed? friggin joke..... and all the dumb ****s on ths board besides you and me say "gee sucks that mccall is out, would have made a great fight" no one questions why or how much bull**** this ultimatley is....this was to be a televised even and had alot of tickets sold for a live gate.....a bunch of typical boxing crap...youre right, MMA diesnt have this kind of BS happen EVER :think
