I watched it live on tv as a kid.

Amazing fight.

Nigel Benn was a warrior.

this is one fight of benn's that i did not make it too but had to make do with watching on tv.Benn showed fantastic courage and deserved the win and the ref although **** was right in a way not to stop the fight as Benn came back gutted out his troubles and scored a brilliant win . say what you want about the ref but the people in the G-Mans corner for me are the most culpable between rounds that had the chance to notice that their fighter was not in good shape and should of pulled him out

G-Man lacked skills and a chin, but he had power and determination. Still, I do believe the accidental Headbutt from Benn in round 8 or 9 caused G-Man's downfall.... G-Man never was the same fighter after being butted by Benn....

wtf no he wasn't. Iv seen other people say this too. A fighter only gets a 20 count if he falls off the apron. If you go through the ropes but are still on the canvas like Benn or Casamayor vs Katsidis it's a 10 count. Liakhovich vs Briggs or Rahman vs Maskaev I are 20 counts.

I had never watched this fight until a few months ago and i have to say my opinion seems to differ quite a bit. Gerald won the majority of the rounds and even without the two knockdowns and two 10-8 rounds he was comfortably ahead, so he was way ahead on the cards. More importantly he looked like he was in a sparring session that he was disinterested in and hardly trying most of the time yet still kicking Benn's ass.

Wouldnt be suprised if Nigel took steroids during his career and that fight either. Remember that Benn never took a **** test after the fight since he "fainted" on his way back to the dressing room.

The biggest thing i took away from watching that fight is that Gerald is about 3 levels above anything Benn wishes he could be in his dreams.
