I know Gerald was a beast, but there's no way he's stopping Toney, let alone early. So we can rule that out.
Yep, 100000000000% never gonna' happen. Toney stops him late. G-Man was too one route for my liking, and size has never been an issue for Toney (apart from his own size of course:nut)
Well it always annoyed Gerald that Emannuel Steward his trainer was a big fan of James Lights out Toney. Toney would have beaten Gerald as he said he was always muvch better than Gerald though Roy Jones was never crazy about getting in there with Gerald because of what happened in the amateurs. What a punchere Gerald was. I still don't know how Benn came through that fight.
McClellan via late stoppage while ahead on points. You know, barring brain injury during fight and all....
lets face it Benn showed alot of heard but he was on his way to losing that fight until the brain injury to Gerald. A clash of heads started the distress and blinking from McClellan. Anyway im sure he would have beat Collins. G-man had ATG power and chin..shame we never got to see more of him.
The only reason they wouldn't have fought is because they were really close, nothing to do with what happened in the amatuers.
Roy never really wanted it. Not saying he was afraid or anything but GMan is a hard night's work for anyone.
The fight was on tap and probabily would've happened had McClellan come through Nigel, as the demand would've been to much. To imply Jones would've ducked him or "never really wanted it" is a load of nonsense, mate. As i said earlier the only reason it wouldn't have happened is because they were good friends (that didn't stop Brown and Blocker going at it) not because one side would've ducked out of it. It doesn't matter anyway, what happened to Gerald against Nigel Benn would've just occured in another fight down the line, as McClellan was carrying it, it was only a matter of time IMO.
Mclellan stops Collins late. He didn't appear to like pressure, but Collins wasn't hard-punching enough to do what Benn did. Mclellan though is completely overrated. Knocking out the half-blind corpse of Julian Jackson isn't that impressive. He had a good jab and obviously that titanic right hand, but he really was a one-trick pony. You can't ignore his two points losses either, since they were to very poor opposition. Gerald had also split with Steward when he fought Benn. So if he had faced Jones Jr after, he was unlikely to have the gameplan he needed. Can't see Jones getting stopped either - the guy was as risk averse as they come. He'd play stay away and rely on the jab when he needed to. And I don't think Gerald could have dealt with Jones' footspeed. Finally, Toney... this would be painful for Mclellan. Toney wouldn't let him land with any regularity at MW or at SMW. And Gerald was too prone to standing right in front of his oppenents - and those are the guys Toney eats up. I see Gerald getting rescued by the referee around the 10th.
I never said it would or would not have happened. If you move around in the circles I do then you would know what I am talking about. Not particularly fancying fighting a particular does not mean you won't or you will not win when you do.
Would have to be at their best to win. Mickey probably had a better chance with his fundamentals being better than Chris but a real hard night's work for anybody.
