Duran has some power. Iran Barkley almost didn't get out of the first round tasting Roberto's right hand. Even Hagler showed a healthy respect after catching those counter rights. Both those guys had outstanding chins.
Overall though I do agree McClellan should win this based on what we saw of him. He was an uncommon offensive force who could box and punch. Being being bigger and faster he would probably get to Duran first before Roberto could get in range.

Agreed. Duran does have power and he's a supreme technician with the mentality and more importantly, skill to land good shots even if he was fighting a bonafide HW. However, I'd struggle to think that Benn didn't punch harder than Roberto.

I don't rate G-Man as a great fighter but I recognise his mentality, reach and power.

I wouldn't say it is a for sure thing. McClelland was not a 154 pound Hearns quality, not in my mind. Hearns was long range and fast and peak.. If Roberto could go a few rounds, who knows. He was never a push over.

I basically agree that we don't know the full story about Gerald. He was without a doubt very good, gifted offensively. Those other assets we will never know for sure.

I will say in his defense McClellan knocked Benn clear out of the ring in the 1st round. I'm not sure if the referee aided Benn in that instant or not.

True. But the fact remains Benn was stopped early and in his prime
by fighters not considered great punchers.
My opinion is McClellan is severely overrated. It's a shame
he got hurt. But if was the destroyer he's seen to be, that
fight with Benn wouldn't have gotten that far.

McClellan KO in 4. Too much size, speed, power & explosiveness for the great Duran to endure.

Mcclellan to big and too aggressive. But i would never write Duran off. He might beat him down the stretch

What fighters stopped Benn in his prime early ? Benn was inexperienced vs Watson. And was used to KOing everyone in the 1st round, and basically threw the kitchen sink at Watson, and gassed himself out against a top quality operator. Nigel Benn certainly improved as a fighter and got a well deserved humbling and gained experienced.

And apart from losing to Eubank in a war where he was stopped on his feet BTW. Benn was never stopped again until years later at the end of his career vs Collins once on sprained ankle.
