How good or great could McClellen have been if he never got injured and stayed with Manny.
Stan Johnson was a joke how he could even be called a trainer is beyond me.

He would have lost to Roy Jones.

After that hard to say, my gut feeling is that his career wouldn't have been that long, he got hit too much and outside of the ring he was a nasty human being, probably would have ended up in prison eventually.

Probably has a Golovkin type career destroying everyone at MW whilst being avoided by the superstars.

Benn was always a step too far though.

Antonio Tarver would have NOT been the first man to KO Roy Jones.

I think we get amazing fights. But SMW in that era was the most loaded division ever.

    Liles
    Toney
    Collins
    Benn
    Eubank
    Jones

I have a hard time seeing McClellan being favored against any of them

McClellan had fought Jay Bell & Gilbert Baptist, 2 non-threatening fighters, before his rematch with JJackson.
Jackson had fought 3-4 tomato cans, before he re-matched McClellan, and some thought both McClelland & Jackson had seen better days (Jackson went out in one round). And Don King was pushing hard for McCellan to "move up" against Benn at SMW, and after McClellan slowly went down to one knee in a "k.o." in the Benn fight, Don King can be heard to say in the post-fight interview: "McClellan quit like a dog".

How was it a step to far? He almost beat Benn in the first round, and decisively so at that. How could it be a bridge too far when he almost beat him, and likely the only reason he lost, was from repeated fouling; fouling that should've gotten Been disqualified, as much less has other fighters. Odd statement indeed Luf

A step too far because he threw everything he had at Benn and couldn't put him away and was ultimately outlasted.

    Benn wins 10/10

Again, Benn almost didn't last, and with other rule sets he place he could've very easily lost. Other refs certainly have stopped much less from continuing. Further, you can't say Benn would always win, when he was constantly fouling his foe. Not grabbing fouls which wouldn't affect his health or durability, we're talking repeated blows to the head. It's like watching a MMA fight and seeing one guy kick another in the balls (that wasn't see by the ref) and he gets awarded the KO victory, and going.. yeah... he'd beat him every time they fought. That makes zero logical sense. Benn should've gotten DQ'd, which again, would count for a G man win.

I don't think he would have beaten Jones. Then, again, Jones may have elected not to fight him. Jones was pretty selective with his opposition, ala Floyd Mayweather.

Haha, are you Irish? A prime, uninjured McClellan would have been a live dog against all them apart from Jones, but even with Jones he would have always had a puncher's chance.

But Benn didn't lose. He proved to be the better man and ultimately could finish the fight.

    Watch it again mate.
