McCllenan and Lacy............Overhyped Amercians Coming To British Shores

it has happened vica versa many times.

what it mainly shows though is how hard it is to win on the road, whether it be in the usa or europe or asia or timbuktu.

americans or american based fighters have always found it just as hard travelling overseas as it is for overseas fighters to fight americans in america.

not enough credit is given to fighters like lennox lewis for example for fighting on the road so much when comparing resume`s .

or winky wright who did a european tour and still kept winning when he was younger.

 

G-man was tough - no hype there in my opinion.

Lacy - a hype job with limited ability

 

McClellan wasn't really overrated at the time.

He's become overrated as the years have past, as is the case with many fighters whose careers ended too soon, or whom self-destructed.

he was out against the ropes not answering back with any punches , the fall to the canvas revived Benn.. but make no mistake he was out.

 

McClellan was highly rated at Middle weight, Benn was his first ever fight at Super middle.

 

Thats all that needs to be said to prove my point . :good

and because of that protection, Benn was never the same fighter ether. Both men suffered a great deal of irreversible punishment due the the ref incompetence to stop the fight when it needed to be.

 

He fell out the ring and got back in within the count. Technically there was nothing wrong with that. I once counted the time he took and it was within the alloted time of the rules.

I do see what your saying though, Benn does apear knocked out, and it does look like McClellan actually punched him round. Today that fight would have definitely been stopped at the time Benn was out of it on the rope; as a win for McClellan.

Things were different back then though, and baring perhaps a little help from the ref and ducking low at times, I think Benn won fair and square.

The Gman was the real deal! If it weren't for Benn's rabbit punches to the back of the head, we'd have Gerald up there with RJJ and PBF in competition for atg in the last 15 years.
You know? You brits and your lopsided, tipsy-turvey, street brawls in a squared circle. Hatton and his blatant disregard for the rules in Manchester- oh... me bloody shoelaces. (As im being ko'd) Oh.... hold/smother. Oh.... blatant robbery. or in benns case rabbit punching someone into a coma! or in Calzaghe's case- lets fight only in the UK... where we can run up a good record despite the fact we are the best actually from out country, and try to make some last ditch efforts at legit legacy!!

You'd rather a fixed fight than a good show- that's what americans bring showmanship and sportsmanship.


Don't get me wrong - I love my european fighters in legit fights. Chris Eubank is one of my all time favorites... and nigel benn when he wasn't putting people in coma's from illegal tactics was a splendor to watch (don't forget he was also kd's 2x in that fight against G-man) but the tendancy is, and should not be overlooked, that fighters from England who are fighting IN england get to run amuck in the ring with no penalties. I don't see english vs english fighters doing so much illegal activity either! its only when a foreign fighter do the officials look the other way to shady business.

England- yuck.

Sorry if i seem really defensive on this issue but as you can tell I feel very strongly about this...
