I agree with this assesment 100%...Gerald was on pace to an extraordinary career in my mind, and I NEVER thought much of Jeff Lacey.

Flints reasoning it correct and now after thinking about he is right, No one has given a plausable antithiesis to Flints thesis that holds water againts it to justify a credible synthasis. Well done flint.

McLellan was a really good fighter. I fail to see how he was overhyped...and I think calling him overhyped takes away from a)the grit and tenacity of both fighters and b)Benn's amazing comeback.

Just my stance on the thing though.

 

The first pargraph is such nonsense that there's about 400 different quotes of it from about 400 different sources.

Again, if Lacy was truly overhyped, why had he not cracked the Top 10 of any P4P list including the Ring???

So Calzaghe won 12-0 over a good fighter, but one who wasn't Top 10 or even Top 20 P4P caliber at the time? And yet that win and a win over a shot Hopkins defines his career?

That's OVERHYPED.

 

I never disputed that Calzaghe is the world champ at 175. He is. Eubank was his toughest fight? I know he gave a spirited effort at cruiser after that, but stop with the revisionist history. He took the fight on short notice and was PAST IT. Kessler was an excellent win, and in my opinion, the best win of his career. As far as defining though, while Kessler is nothing to scoff at, is he a Hall of Famer? Time will tell.

So based on what YOU said, here are the career defining fights:
1. Kessler (good win)
2. Hopkins (past prime)
3. Lacy (Not Top 10 or 20 P4P)
4. Eubank (past prime)

This is a guy we're talking about who apparently had 21 (TWENTY-ONE) defenses of his belt and undefeated overall...and this is the resume? Aside from Hopkins and Eubank, who might I reiterate were BOTH PAST THEIR PRIMES, there is no one on his list who will sniff the Hall of Fame.

OVERRATED.
