McCloskey brands Team Khan offer 'ridiculous'

:deal When you are fighting a marquee name you are perfectly enttitled to expect a bigger purse than you usually get. If Khan was fighting Floyd Mayweather im sure he would expect to get a far bigger payday than he usually gets. You fight a marquee man and you get more money thats the way it goes.

But Team Khan doesnt want to pay anybody decently, the way they see it is...we are the star therefore we keep all the money for ourselves. its just plain tight fisted greed. They dont want to give abybody a payday.

Even more annoying is they then accuse the others of pricing themselves out.

Sorry Laz but it does seem like Khan is being a tight *******. That's 2 people that have turned down his offers and another that he's claiming is asking for too much money. It must be a totally crap offer for them to come out and say they're not even interested in talking. He doesn't want to get a rep as a primadonna in negotiations, fighters at this level are not going to fight for shite money just because Khan holds all the cards. The fact he does hold all the cards gives him a super strong position and ensures a huge percent of the total purse but you can't take the ****.

All he's going to end up with is a crap fight against somebody that will accept bad money, thats inevitably going to be a poorer opponent which is bad for him and the fans.

yeah, I agree. If Harrison got £1,000,000 to fight Haye in the MEN then McCloskey deserves £2,000,000 to fight Khan there.

Obviously he won't anywere near this type of money but he shouldn't settle for anything less than £500,000.

 

He won't get near that either.

If it's correct he is getting £75k for his Euro defences at home; I don't think it's unreasonable to expect upwards of £100,000.

I think the point McCloskey's team have an issue with is the % of the total revenue that they'd get.

Does he bring in any Irish money?

I remember the Hatton vs Mayweather fight took less making than some of these, mainly because Floyd underestimated the TV deal from the other fighter. Team Khan probably won't make that mistake.

 

Deserves got nothing to do with it. Harrison got 1 million because it was a hugely marketable fight, that was a massive box office success.

In this fight the most realistically these kind of opponents can hope for is 100-250k. Simply because it isn't a huge fight.

 

I agree that "deserves" won't necessarily have any impact on what he actually gets but I don't think it's unreasonable to look for £500,000. McCloskey will easily sell 5,000 tickets for this event and PPV fights are currently priced at about €21 in Ireland. Thousands will tune into this in Ireland and thousands more Irish abroad will tune in too.

The point I'm making is that McCloskey's fans will essentially cover his purse for this fight so it's unreasonable for Khan's people to expect him to accept 25% more than he gets for an EBU defence.
