Such a shame he gave in a poor showing against Khan. That fight, win or lose, should have opened more doors for him if he gave a good fight.
It has, but is wasn't his performance that opened the doors, his popularity was realised in that fight. I give McCloskey a much better chance against Maidana that I did against Khan but I still think Maidana is too tough for him.
He hasnt got the fight against Maidana and dont think he will as Maidana according to Morrales is asking for to much and dont think Paul could offer him much.
His popularity was flamed, partially, because of the opponent he was facing. I doubt McCloskey will be drumming up that kind of support on a regluar basis. If he gave in a decent account of himself, he would have helped himself a lot more. Fights against Bradley, Alexander, etc, would have been a real possibility. But right now, he's just remembered as that Irishman who was used as a warm-up opponent for Khan. Which, like I said, is a shame, because I give him a good chance against the likes of Maidana, etc. And I'm not sure how serious these talks are currently. All we have are poxy little tweets. In all likelihood, GBP and Maidana's team will probably dismiss it when Maidana sits with them. McCloskey has very little to offer Maidana. He'll be a pointless fight.
Don't be silly, Rico. It was always part of the plan. Lose the first 6 rounds and then knock Khan out late (Which was 100% guaranteed to happen). Cheated, not defeated!
Now that make sense, Maidana is a world level Operator, Mcloskey need's to move up the rankings a bit and be looking to challenge the lower level world rankings rather than the top.
doesnt sound like it, I thought he had based on what I read on here. Maybe there's a moral to that story!
